100 Years Ago (1908)

No wonder the doctors are so fond of operating for appendicitis. It takes place right at the opening of the patient’s trousers pocket.

Albert Kulpeck sold his residence property to John Melbinger last week. Consideration $550

F. Mikolainis had nine head of cattle at his farm tested on Tuesday for tuberculosis and all were found free from the disease.

John Grabowski has sold eighteen acres of land adjoining St. Hedwig’s Church site to Andrew Novabilski. Consideration $1500

75 Years Ago (1933)

Pillsbury Best Flour, 49 pounds, $1.95; Lemons, Sunkist brand, extra good quality, dozen @ 32˘; Canning Cherries, Sturgeon Bay Quality, 16 quart crates, $1.45; Overalls, 30-30 brand with the new style back, look these over before you buy, pair, $1.10.

Roger Creek and Town Line – The Leduke road house has been re-christened the Bungalow Tavern.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wyczawski celebrated their Golden Jubilee on Sunday, July 6th with a High Mass at 9:00 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church where they were married 50 years ago.

Francis J. Conway was elected grand knight of Thorp’s newly formed Queen of Peace Council, Knights of Columbus, at a recent organization meeting.

Harold Mates (Mattes), Thorp, has been named director for the State of Wisconsin in the National Association of Livestock Auction Markets; it was announced from the national headquarters in Kansas City, MO.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Kids of all ages checked out the Big Top of the Franzen Bros. Circus when it was raised on Thursday morning, June 30 in the Thorp City Park. The Big Top was raised by an elephant and later that day two shows were held.

A benefit auction was held in the gym of the Thorp Elementary School on Wednesday evening, June 29, to raise funds for the purchase of playground equipment.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Thorp Volunteer firefighters responded to a fire at the home Jim and Geraldine Schmidt at 401 S. Thorp, Sunday, June 5th. The fire originated in the basement.

Staff Sgt. David Kosik, son of Ed and Cora Kosik of Thorp was named the 57th Wing Dedicated Crew Chief of the Year.

Thorp FFA members Nels Wirtala, Josh Rosemeyer, and Kenny Nowobielski are among twenty-five essay finalists who were recognized at the 69th Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison for excellence in writing.
