100 Years Ago (1908)

Stanley Sunbeams – Miss Ione McCaffery has been appointed secretary to the president and faculty of the Oshkosh Formal School.
 
Worden Wavelets – Henry Driessen had a dance in his new house on Friday evening.  A large crowd was present and all reported a good time.
 
2,500,000 laboring men are out of employment in this country owing to the financial panic, which had its beginning a year ago.
 
W. A. Wilhelm of Cadott was in town on Monday last.  Mr. Wilhelm purchased Wm. Schabach’s eighty acre farm, one mile west of the village, recently, and will move here with his family next week.  The consideration was $7,400 and includes everything in the way of personal proerty (property) pertaining to the farm.
 
75 Years ago (1933)
 
A large gathering of a few hundred farmers was present last Friday, Oct. 27th, at the Thorp Opera House to the Milk Pool meeting, an organization of 17,000 farmers with l0 locals in Clark County alone.
 
The Clark County teachers association was organized at Greenwood this past week, with an initial enrollment of 120 city and rural teachers.
 
Neiman’s Corner – Jos. Lukaszewicz had all his household goods burned at Stevens Point by strikers.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
A rural Withee woman, Mrs Earl Baehr, 33, the mother of two boys died almost instantly of a broken neck Sunday afternoon about 3:20 o’clock.
 
West Worden – The Thorp Fire Department was called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Anderson Tuesday evening when their home and contents were completely destroyed by fire.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
Kandi Syryczuk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Syryczuk of Thorp, was a unanimous selection to the All Conference Volleyball Team for the Western Division of the Cloverbelt Conference.  Becky Hoffman and Kate Kaz, Thorp, were both Honorable Mention selections.
 
The citizens of the Thorp School District voted Tuesday, October 25, against the School Board obtaining a $500,000 loan from the State-Trust Fund for construction of a new 5-8 facility attached to the high school.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Last Saturday’s sectional competition ended with two members of the Thorp Cross Country team qualifying for the State Cross Country Meet to be held on Saturday, October 31.  Heather Lipinski and Kim Kroll, who have shown outstanding performances this year, will represent the Thorp team in Wisconsin Rapids.
