100 Years Ago (1908)

Reseburg Ramblings – Caesar Barth and Herman Doege, with a crew of men, went into camp near Polley last Sunday.
 
Stanley Sunbeams – Mrs. Leonora M. Lake who lectured here last week on temperance and the home, gave general satisfaction to her audience.
 
A. J. Ogurek is rebuilding his saw mill in the Town of Roosevelt, which was destroyed by fire a couple of months ago.
 
F. Switalski has sold his saloon property three miles east of the village to A. Stryk who will use the same for residence purposes only, discontinuing the saloon.  Consideration $550
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
Tuesday night sneak thieves again invaded the garage of August Kuehl and relieved him of the two back wheels from his car.  No trace has been found of the stolen goods or the robbers.  August is getting pretty disgusted.  He has had about three of four cars stolen and stripped of enough parts to start a good-sized garage.
 
Apples – 10 lbs. for 25¢; cranberries – large, 2 lbs. 23¢; sweet potatoes – 3 lbs. for 10¢; raisins – 2 lbs. 15¢.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
According to Mrs. Lois O. Guest, Clark County Health Nurse, only one case of polio has been reported so far during the season in the county.
 
The Snow Flake Ball will be held December 20 at the Thorp High School Auditorium.  The queen will be picked by cash vote, consisting of a penny a vote.  The candidates are: Delores Kaszubowski, senior class; Carol Gajda, junior class; Betty Butek, sophomore class; Ellen Baldeschwiler, freshman class; Barbara Pabich, G. A.A.; and Joan Ann Kwiesielewicz, F. H. A.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
The countdown, which started a year ago, has come to an end – The Thorp Courier is now officially 100 years old as of November 23, 1983.
 
Daryl Braatz, FBLS adviser at Thorp High School and member of the National Board of Directors, has recently been named chairman of the Finance Committee of FBLA-PBL, Inc.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Kent Hoff, 21, of 507 W. School St. Thorp, was first to sign in his kill at the Thorp Express Mart.
 
Thorp Public Schools will soon join the growing number of Wisconsin School districts, which are linked to Distance Learning Services.
 
The Gilman School Board is adamantly opposed to a mandatory post-Labor Day school year.
