100 Years Ago (1908)

David Imrie, who conducted the farmers’ institute here last week, purchased three choice Holstein heifers for $250, and one Holstein cow for $150, from Wm. Krause, whose specialty is Holsteins.  The lot was shipped on Monday to Mr. Imrie at Roberts, WI.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
The local Sons of Veterans Camp has elected and installed the following officers for the coming year: Com. – E. H. Fenstermacher; S.V. Com. – O. W. Taylor; J. V. Com. – E. J. Nimbar; Chaplain – Isaac Sisco; P. Ins. – H. F. Bohn; Sec. /Treas. – B. Warner; Guide – A. N. Sisco; Color Bearer – Geo. Van Gorder; Musician – Philip Mattes; Ins. Guard – John Rossman; and Out. Guard – H. Rossman.
 
Goggle Eye News – Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the large house on the Casper Skrypinski farm early Wednesday morning.  It is understood all the household goods were saved.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
A Thorp youth, Conrad Harycki, is one of four students honored Thursday night by the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association as they completed dairy short courses at the University of Wisconsin.
 
The following officers were installed at a regular meeting of Lodge No. 264, F. & A. M. at Thorp Tuesday evening, Dec. 16th: W. M. – Ray Arndt; S. W. – Wm. Nourse; J. W. – Ernest Stauss; Treasurer – Walter Wohlleben; Secretary – Russell B. Mead; S. D. – John J. LaGasse; S. D. – Don Seaholm; S. S. – Roy Swanson; J. S. – Dean Hubbard; Tyler – Walter Boelter.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
Firefighters from the Owen-Thorp and Thorp Volunteer Departments were at the scene attempting to contain an early morning blaze, which occurred three miles south and six miles east of the city of Thorp in the Town of Longwood.  Five children of the Ammon Sauder family were killed in the blaze and four others were injured.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Thorp Police Department, West Central Drug Task Force and Wisconsin Division of Narcotic Enforcement announce the arrest of 6 individuals following a lengthy investigation into illicit drug trafficking in the Thorp area.
 
Thorp High School Principal Dan Taft will have more time to spend on administrative duties now that the Thorp School Board voted, at their regular December meeting, to relieve him of event supervision responsibilities for the remainder of the 1998-1999 school year.
