Wavelets – There was no Sunday school at River View on account of the
high water, the river having over flowed until the road was covered.
A severe storm of snow and rain prevailed here all day Saturday, a
deluge of water fell, and the snow again disappeared. 75
Years Ago (1934) By a vote of 31 to 21, the Clark
County Board of Supervisors voted to abolish the present county system
of poor relief, effective April 1, 1935, thereby reverting back to the
former township system of distribution. The Thorp Courier
reached the age of fifty-one years with last week’s number with the
original started still at the helm. Around the Corner – Friends
and relatives helped Andrew Herman celebrate his sixty-seventh birthday
on Sunday. 50 Years Ago (1959) Phillip
Baker, 17, Gilman, was killed instantly at 11:40 o’clock last Wednesday
night in an unusual traffic accident a mile eat of Jump River on Highway
73 in the northwest corner of Taylor County. A tax levy of
$674,382.61 to finance the county’s share of 1960 Clark County budget of
$3,079,058.56 was approved by the board of supervisors before it
adjourned its annual fall meeting. Due to the illness of John W.
Rogalski, who was taken seriously ill and is presently at the Marshfield

home. 25 Years Ago (1984) The Thorp
City Council has just about given up on the extended sewer project on
Adams St. for this year. Casey Frankewicz, President of the

Gromme” to the Thorp Public Library on behalf of the Alumni Association.
Librarian Mary Ogurek gratefully accepts the book which displays Owen
Gromme’s many talents as a wildlife artist. 10 Years Ago
(1999) Bruce Westphal, Thorp never imagined that
anything would come of the entry blank he slipped into the contest box
at Mike’s Family Foods on the last day of the contest. He won two
tickets to the Green Bay Packers-San Francisco 49er’s game at San
Francisco on Monday, November 29. The prize included airfare,
ground transportation, motel accommodations, tailgate party, and two
tickets to the game. Can it get any better than that?
Stephanie Niedzwicki was a winner of the CARQUEST Christmas card design
contest. She received a framed copy of her design, and a V-tech laptop
computer.
