100 Years Ago (1909)

Stanley Sunbeams – W. H. Lynn, local express agent, reports that 165 deer carcasses were shipped from Stanley to outside points during the hunting season. – Henry Thorpe, while hunting a few miles north of Stanley on Nov. 28th, was shot through the fleshy part of his arm by the accidental discharge of his gun.
 
Of the amount apportioned to high schools by the state, Thorp High School receives $387.99.
 
Jos. Glowacki of the Town of Thorp was severely injured by being thrown from a wagon by a runaway team on Monday morning.
 
75 Years Ago (1934)
 
Corwin C. Guell, attorney at law, with offices in the Farmers Exchange Bank building at Thorp, Wisconsin, was recently appointed Conciliation commissioner under the Frazier-Lemke Farm Moratorium Act, for Clark County.
 
Robert Peeples, Thorp, WI, chunky and aggressive right guard of the Golden Avalanche, was recently chosen as captain of the 1935 Marquette Eleven.
 
Roger Creek and Town Line – Geo. Broughton is delivering mail on former route 2 now, a part of route 1.
 
Pineland Corners – We are enjoying real winter for a change with most of us forced into sleigh riding.
 
Breezy Hill Cheese Factory Neighborhood – Some of the farmers in this vicinity have signed to take the Bang’s disease taste (test).  It has been understood that Dr. Lien of Stanley will do the testing in the Town of Worden.
 
50 Years Ago (1959)
 
Clark County will have a new agricultural agent beginning January 1, 1960.  He is John F. Oncken, native of Dane County, who has been the county’s 4-H Club agent since 1957.
 
What most people don’t know is that the candles now on the light posts for the Yule season were made by City Engineer Ray Zaborowski.
 
Mayor Jos. T. Tobola informed the Thorp Courier editor Wednesday morning that he will submit five names to the city council for consideration as Alderman for Ward 2 in the city when they meet in regular session Monday evening at the city hall.
 
25 Years Ago (1984)
 
Russell Siudak, 20, Thorp, is the new owner of the Ceramic Palace, formerly Sue’s Ceramic Delight, at 204 N. Washington St. in Thorp.  Siudak took over the business may 1 of this year. 
 
The net tax rate for the City of Thorp in 1985 will be $20.9422 per thousand dollars of assessed property value, up $2.1803 from $18.7619 per thousand this year.
 
10 Years Ago (1999)
 
On October 26, the Thorp Moose Lodge #680 honored Steven Dus as “Moose of the year 1998.”  Governor Edmund Abramowicz, Sr., presented the award.
 
The Thorp Business Association honored James and Eva Mae Pabich as Outstanding Business Persons at their October Meeting.
