100 Years Ago (1910)
Reseburg Ramblings – Masons have begun work on a barn foundation, 36
x 104 for Peter Biddle. – Telephones have been installed the past week
at the homes of L. B. Cornwell, Mrs. August Page, H. F. Goff, Mrs.
august Hansman, Claude Colby and Charley Hardy. Stanley Sunbeams
– Joseph Cohen has bought the store building of Crane & Sons. A
team owned and driven by Frank Kutnarowski of the Town of Thorp got
frightened and ran away in the west part of the village on Saturday
last, one of the horses valued at $250 breaking one of its legs. The
animal was shot by Marshal McParland. Peter Heiser departed for
Madison on Saturday last to accept a position as traveling salesman for
the Buffalo Pitts Threshing Machine Co. 75 Years Ago
(1935) At a special meeting of East Thorp Cemetery
association, H. V. Soli was elected to fill the vacancy of secretary
caused by the resignation of R. J. Tolford. Town of Taft News –
County Trunk F west of Bellinger has been almost impassable the past
couple weeks. A Taylor County Highway Commissioner advised the
patrolmen no (not) to try to fix the road but let it dry out as it
would. Town of Taft News – Hurrah for Westland School! At
a singing contest held at Gilman Saturday, about fifteen pupils
represented Westland School. They were awarded first Prize and are to
complete with other winners at Medford the 25th. 50
Years Ago (1960) Leonard Haas of Fisher’s plumbing and
Heating in Thorp took his master plumbing license examination a week ago
Monday and was notified by the state examiners Friday that he had passed
as a Master Plumber. Darlene Soeller, Thorp, is one of the Prom
Queens who will be honored as “Summer Sweethearts” during Marshfield’s
“Salute to Summer” May 20 and 21. The Methodist Church and
fellowship are to have a service of church dedication next Sunday
afternoon, May 22nd at 2:30 p.m. Bishop H. C. Northcott will
perform the dedication and during this service the act of burning the
mortgage will take place. 25 Years Ago (1985)
For the eighth year in a row the Thorp FBLA Parliamentary Procedure
Team has place first in the state at the Leadership Conference in Green
Bay recently. The team consisted of Cindy Mathison, Ann Oberle, Shelly
Slowiak, Dana Jarocki, Suzanne Miller and Michelle Barth. The
Thorp Chapter of the Future Business leaders of America proudly
announces the election of Dana Jarocki as the state secretary of the
Wisconsin FBLA chapter. Thorp will once again complete in the
Eastern Cloverbelt Conference for all sports but football. The move came
on May 8 after a meeting that was to finalize the move to
Osseo-Fairchild to the Cloverbelt Conference for all sports.
10 Years Ago (2000) Julie Derks and Shannon Einhorn
were awarded the 2000 Gold Crest Award. The 2000 Silver Crest
Award went to Kelly Schauer, Jason Jacks, and Lane Peleschak.
Sheriff Dale Olson of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department announced
Tuesday that a total of nine individuals were arrested Monday, May 15,
as a result of a lengthy drug investigation in the areas of Abbotsford,
Curtiss, Dorchester and Marshfield.
