100 Years Ago (1910)

Worden Wavelets – Mr. Kuyster, veterinary surgeon of Withee, saved a valuable cow for T. S. Steele last Saturday.
 
School district No. 1, of the Town of Reseburg has decided to use a team during the next school year to transport children from distant localities in the district to the school.
 
Jacob M. Lott of Rainier, Ore., has been a visitor here several days.  Mr. Lott is an old timer here, leaving this vicinity 33 years ago. The land occupied by Phil Mattes stores in the Town of Reseburg was a portion of his homestead upon which he resided from 1870 to 1877.
 
Hixon Meade’s brass band made its first public appearance on Sunday last and considering the length of time the boys have been practicing, discoursed some very good music.
 
Try Snyder’s 20¢ coffee; better than most 35¢ grades.
 
75 Years Ago (1935)
 
The local Methodist Church people have undertaken the building of an addition to their church building.
 
Wm. Endvick was appointed deputy sheriff by county sheriff Hal Richardson last week.
 
Repairs and alterations are being made in the Thorp Sanitary Bakery building owned by St. Moczarny, preparatory to being occupied by H. T. Jalling’s Grocery.  The bakery shop is to be moved into the old Fred Klemp building.
 
50 Years Ago (1960)

 
A small barn at the home of Harry Badzinski on the eastern outskirts of Thorp was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.  Fifty-one chickens perished.
 
On June 16th, Thursday, at 8 p.m., the Rev. Martin H. Wachnawill (Wachna will) be formally installed as pastor of St. Mary’s of Assumption Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin.
 
At a school meeting of the Thorp School District last Wednesday, an important decision was made by the electors to discontinue the present system of transportation of the district – being part owners of the school buses today – and turn over the transportation problems to a private contractor.
 
25 Years Ago (1985)
 
Tim Ciokiewicz and Jan Stuttgen will represent Thorp at this year’s Badger Boys and Girls State sessions this month.
 
After 27 years with Anderson’s Furniture, Hank buys the store!
 
Jay Stuttgen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Stuttgen, Thorp, was recently initiated into the Wisconsin Gamma Chapter of Alpha Zeta at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
 
The Thorp Fire department was called to the scene of a truck fire in the Town of Worden, June 3rd.  The truck belonging to Knar Ford Sales of Stanley was driven by Duane Ketterhagen when it caught fire on the Town of Worden road.
 
10 Years Ago (2000)
 
The big moment came Friday night at the Northside pavilion when the 2000-2001 Miss Thorp and her court were announced: 1st runner-up Shannon Einhorn, Miss Thorp Kelly Lipinski, 2nd runner-up Renee Klanderman, Miss Congeniality Sadie Sopiarz.  Jessica Haas was the winner of Princess Thorp.
 
This year was the first time that the VFW Award was given to a Thorp student.  The award went to Haley Swope, a 13-year-old seventh grader at Thorp Middle School for her essay entitled “How Should We Honor Our Veterans?”
