Stanley Siftings – While working at the mill of the N-W Lumber
Company on July 21st, Oscar Brown, 18 years of age, had a leg caught in
the machinery, which resulted in the amputation of the leg at the
hospital at Eau Claire on the following day. Reseburg Ramblings

Look it over. A meeting was held at the village hall on Friday
evening last for the purpose of organizing a fire company. The

Pineland Corners – Ninety-six degrees in the shade Sunday, July 21;
a bumper crop just about all stored in the hay mows and blueberry time.
Many of this community are going to southern patches for their berries.
Around the Corner – Frank Bandach’s barn was destroyed by fire at
an early hour on Monday. Ray Gengler, Ed Baures, Don Boardman
and Melvin Schmidt started for the North Dakota harvest fields Tuesday
in a Chevrolet coupe. 50 Years Ago (1960)
Thorp Orbits – Sometimes we have notes in our little black book, which
we can’t remember where they came from. Such a note this week is
the information that Hank Nowobielski is the pride of Rock Water Ski
Club. Alex Badzinski, proprietor of Al’s U’Bar is busy these
days painting his place, commonly known as the Moose Club.
Taxpayers of Joint School District No. 1, which includes the City of
Thorp and various area townships, made preparations Monday evening for
the erection of a new school building, if the need be. Leonard
Grendzinski, 31, of Chicago and formerly of Thorp, died by drowning in
Lake Michigan Saturday, July 16th when his boat smashed into the Oak
Street breakwater in Chicago. 25 Years Ago (1985)
Members of the Thorp Scout Troop 27 returned recently from a
one-week camping trip to Camp Phillips. The scouts are: Shannon Buss,
Chris and Mike Voelker, Keven Dallas, and Todd Schesel. City
work crews began long awaited street repairs recently. Sections of
pavement in need of repair were cut then crews dug out the broken pieces
and the loose base. Later, a local contractor filled in the dug
out area with a fresh base. 10 Years Ago (2000)
Joey Frenette of Thorp placed 2nd in the Regional Individual Stroke
competition of the Special Olympics Golf Tournament held in Green Bay.
Donald Eichman and Erin Polnaszek attended the March of Dimes
National Youth Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on July 19-23.
Donald and Erin won scholarships to attend the conference by writing two
essays and a resume. Approximately 500 youth from across the country
attended the workshops and general sessions.
