100 Years Ago (1892)

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. B. Klinzing on Sept. 6th.

Jos. Shebelak started for Watertown, his former home, on his bicycle on Wednesday of last week.

A young Polish gentleman named John Slota has been added to the force of clerks at the Garrison Mercantile Co’s store.

Herman Seiden lost the middle finger of his left hand by getting too close to a saw while at work at the stave factory on Tuesday morning.  Dr. McKittrick dressed the wound.

A number of Indians were in town on Monday.  They are hunting in the woods north of here and digging ginseng.

Eidsvold – Eidsvold has a circulating library.  W. S. Parks is proprietor.

Worden – Louis Bachouse sold his farm recently to Paul Hoffman of Indiana; Mr. Hoffman to take possession Oct. 15th.  Consideration $15,000

Bonczyk’s Corner – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Baehr on Friday of last week.

Neiman’s Corner – The marriage of Miss Hattie Gurbacki to Leon Andruzewski took place Saturday morning, followed by a reception at the bride’s home.

Mrs. Malecki sold her residence property last week to Otto Dudonsky for $650.

Peter Hipke sold thirty acres of land, a portion of his farm, to W. Pickarz last week.

Martin Schultz sold his residence property in the west part of the village last week to Irvin Chamberlain. Consideration $1,000

Rev. J. B. Bachman reached the age of eighty-nine years on Saturday last.

Andrew Lewandowski, of the Reseburg (area), died at the Chippewa Falls hospital on Friday last and the body was brought here on Saturday for burial.

Miss Ruth Zillman went to Madison on Friday last where she will attend the state university.

Miss Bernice Harycki and Mr. Leon Klasinski were united in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Church on Tuesday morning, Father Pudlo officiating.

Dr. W. F. Nolecheck, who is spending a few days at his former home in Michigan, received a telegram on Sunday last to appear at once for army service in Texas. The telegram was forwarded to him and he is expected to return here before his departure to join the veterinary service.

50 Years Ago

Benedict Kriskowski, 62, passed away at his home at Lublin, Wis. on Tuesday evening, Sept. 22nd, after a short illness.

A nuptial Mass read by Father Lengowski at St. Hedwig’s Church, joined in holy wedlock Mr. Alex Badzinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Badzinski of the Town of Withee and Miss Lucille Catherine Swienton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swienton of Thorp village, Saturday morning, September 12th.

An eight pound daughter was born, to Mr. and Mrs. Wilferd Vanderhyden at the Stanley Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1942.

News has been received here of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Lawrence of Marshfield, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in that city on Friday, Sept. 18th.

Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Feist, of Reseburg, a bouncing baby boy, on Friday, Sept. 18, 1942, at the Stanley Hospital.

Martin Kaniewski, 60, husband of the former Pelagia Gruszynski, of Thorp, died at his home in South Bend, Ind., on Monday evening, Sept. 21, 1942.

Edward Barski of Thorp completed his schooling as instructor in Chicago and was appointed in that capacity for six weeks at Navy Pier, Chicago.

Heavy rain in this territory last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, saw Thorp isolated as far as traffic was concerned.  Floods and washouts in other areas particularly west and north of Thorp delayed and disrupted train and bus schedules.  On highway 73, six miles north of Thorp, the North Fork River flowed over the road and washed out the approach to the concrete bridge, causing the closing of the highway for a number of hours.  Black River east of Thorp rose over the highway near the road bridge and impeded traffic of cars until Saturday night.

Eidsvold – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Johns at Victory Hospital, Sept. 16th, a son.

White Birch – News has been received by Mr. and Mrs. B. Wynimko of a son, 6 lbs. 9 oz., born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kislewski, in Chicago.  Mrs. Kislewski is remembered as Sophie Wynimko.

Roger Creek – Thursday was pay day at the local cheese factory.  The price paid was 55¢ per lb. for butter fat.

25 Years Ago

A Willard youth, Ronald A. Debevec, 18, was instantly killed and 25 cars of a Soo Line freight train derailed early Saturday when Debevec’s car smashed into the train in a dense fog at a rural crossing south of Owen.

An Eau Claire businessman and a nine-year-old Clark County boy were killed in a two-car collision at 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Owen at the intersection going to the Owen Golf course.  Garvin Catlin, owner of the Catlin Shoe Store in Eau Claire was reported killed instantly when his car collided with one driven by Mrs. Laverne Klemetson, Curtiss.

Funeral Services were held at St. Mary’s Polish National Church, Lublin on Monday, September 18, for Joseph Nowak, 79, who passed away at his home Friday, September 15th of a heart attack.

Mrs. Elma Seefledt, 69, of Stanley, died at Victory Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Joseph Komon, 52, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls of Cancer on Saturday, Sept. 16th.

Harvey Rossman has been transferred back to the states after being wounded in Vietnam.

A son, Shane Karl, weighing 6 lbs. 10 ½ oz. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Zahn of New London, on Tuesday, September 12th.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Stroinski had their baby girl baptized, Sunday.  They named her Roberta.

Lublin – The passing of two long time residents of the area took place this past week.  Mr. Joe Nowak departed Sept. 15th.  Mr. Witek, father of John, Frank and Peter Witek passed away on Saturday.

Friendly Neighbors – Mrs. Ralph Hempelman returned home on Sunday after spending sometime at Caledonia where she made the acquaintance of a new granddaughter, born to Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Neisius.

Stanley Memorial Hospital Birth – September 7, 1967, daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Walteraitis, Thorp.

Miss Cecilia Ann Zajack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Zajack, Thorp, became the bride of Jerold J. Wirth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wirth, Nekoosa at St. Hedwig’s Chapel in Thorp.
