Aug. Wiesner has gone into partnership with P. Schroeder in the saloon business.
 
Wm. Walsdorf, B. F. Rusch and Louis Johnson have each put up new awnings in front of their buildings.
 
Capt. Signot of Eau Claire inspected Cold Harbor Camp S. of V., in this village on Saturday evening.
 
Oluf Thorp, who had his right arm amputated about a month ago, has been given a position at the N.W.L. Co’s planing mill at Stanley.
 
Mr. L. Burgess, of Embarrass, Mrs. A. Morris, of Clintonville and Miss Olive Morris of Shiocton were called here by the death of Mr. and Blank’s babe, last week.
 
An Indian named Bill Davis, assisted by Wm. Coats, captured seven young wolves, in the Town of Withee one day last week.
 
75 Years Ago (1918)

 
South Point – Last week the stork visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pagel and left them a nice little baby girl.
 
Neillsville Press – August H. Hoepner of Marshall, Minn., and Emma Furlong of Thorp, Wis., were married at the Methodist Parsonage in that city last Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
 
Arthur Kronberg, son of M. Kronberg, went to Wausau on Monday to volunteer for navy service.
 
Ed. May has purchased the one-half interest in the Thorp Auto Co.’s garage owned by Dr. Cunningham of Cadott, during the past year, the other one-half being owned by Jos. A. Walsdorf.
 
50 Years Ago (1943)

 
Thorp men accepted for service in May were: Army: James Pagel, James Cotter, and Donald Purkapile.  Navy: Clyde Misfeldt.
 
John J. Harycki purchased the business property of Henry Jalling located on Washington Street (the former Mead Drug Store building) last week.  The Harycki family will reside in the upper living apartment.
 
A daughter, weighing eight pounds, nine ounces was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herb Roix at the Stanley Hospital on Tuesday, May 18th.
 
Announcement has been received here of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Burzynski of South Milwaukee on Mother’s Day, May 9, 1943.
 
Mrs. Magdaline Ponick, aged 95, passed away at the home of her son Charles Ponick, Wednesday, May 5, of infirmities of old age.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Naydihor celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary at their home in the Town of Reseburg on Sunday, May 9th.
 
Taft – News has been received here by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Mathews that their son, Staff Sgt. Allen Mathews, was killed in action.  He was seriously wounded and died the same day.
 
North Donald – Word was received of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poulda on May 9th.
 
25 Years Ago (1968)

 
Word received here Tuesday morning that Alex Kowieski, 72, passed away at Tucson, Arizona, that morning.
 
LeRoy Merlak, superintendent of schools, announced Monday that Bernard Stuttgen, of Clear Lake has been hired as the head football and track coach for the coming year by the Thorp School Board.
 
The election of several new officers by Thorp Finance Corp. insurance subsidiaries has been announced.  Two new officers were elected by the Thorp Life Ins. Corp. Board of Directors were: William Higley is Administrative Vice President and Roland H. Boettcher, Assistant Secretary, Glen Gilbertson was elected Assistant Vice President of the Mid-Western Life and Health Insurance Co.
 
An 8 lb. 8 oz. baby boy, Mark Edmund, was born May 8th to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Maier of Green Bay.  Mrs. Maier is the former Peg Alger.
 
Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Verland Noah a baby girl, Amy Jean on May 8th.
 
Mrs. Mary Zimmerman, 80, a pioneer resident of Boyd and vicinity passed away Saturday evening at St. Charles Hospital, Aurora, Ill.
 
Miss Judith Ann Popowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Popowski, Lublin, became the bride of Lawrence Eugene Slowiak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Slowiak, Thorp on Saturday, April 20th, at St. Stanislaus Church, Lublin.
 
Army Private First Class Robert Kozenka, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kozenka, Thorp, was assigned as an artillery man in the 1st Infantry Division near Lai Khe, Vietnam.
 
Bobb’s Mill – Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nye, who are making their home in South St. Paul, had their son, Kent Melvin baptized Saturday at 7:00 p.m. by Rev. Robert Olson.
 
Connie Conklin of Thorp and Edward Irish of Abbotsford exchanged wedding vows Saturday, April 27, in the Methodist Church in Thorp.
 
Breezy Hill – Announcements were received here of the birth of baby girl, Christine Ann, weighing 9 lbs, and 11 oz. on May 6, to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Brunett of Milwaukee.
