100 Years Ago (1895)

Have you got a logging job for the winter?
 
Quite a number of deer are being killed in this vicinity this fall.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Deforth of Reseburg on Friday last.
 
H. Holzhausen will give a dance at his hall at Reseburg on Saturday evening next, November 9.
 
Dr. and Mrs. McCutcheon gave a delightful Halloween party to a number of friends at their home Thurs. eve.
 
Marshall I. N. Jones killed five dogs last week and says he will exterminate all not being supplied with the regulation tag as he desires to show no partiality in the matter.
 
Numerous pranks were played by the festive youth on Thurs. night last and the changes and general looks of things on Fri. morning served to show that much hard work had been accomplished during the night.  No serious damage was done.
 
The machine which E. A. Boardman is putting into his mill, aside from being used for grinding feed, also has attachments for crushing corn, cob and all, a corn meal and buckwheat bolter and a fine flour bolter.
 
Eidsvold – C. Larson of Kingston and Miss Martha Anderson of Eau Claire were married at the residence of Marius Anderson near here on Sunday.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)

 
Town Line – A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Van Gorder of Stanley, October 23rd.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wnek on Thurs. of last week.
 
A baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Felix Mroz, of the Town of Withee on Tuesday of last week.
 
Miss Stella Schmay died of consumption at her home in the Town of Withee on Tuesday of last week.
 
On Sat. last the Dow Cheese Co. had six carloads of cheese in their warehouse here, having been unable to secure cars for shipping same during the week. The receipts at the warehouse average about a car load daily from factories in this vicinity.
 
Mrs. Frank Plucinski died at the hospital at Chippewa Falls on Tuesday evening.
 
The Courier is in receipt of a card announcing the marriage of Miss Belle Landry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Landry, and Mr. Frank Krampeter, of Gilmanton, WI.  The ceremony took place at the Sacred Heart Church, Mondovi, on Wednesday, October 20th.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)

 
Sat. morning, Nov. 3rd was the scene of a beautiful church wedding of Miss Frances DeBiesz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeBiesz, formerly of Thorp and Mr. Edward Rygiel Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rygiel, of Boyd, at St. Mary’s Church, Stanley.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Strzok, 79, were held Sat. Nov. 3 in St. Hedwig’s Church.
 
Miss Bernadine Gengler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gengler of Thorp became the bride of Pvt. Donald Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Jensen of Cornell on Sat. Oct. 27 at the Fort Mason Chapel, San Francisco, Calif.
 
Andrew Pawlak recently sold a lot 68x150 near his residence property on the east side to J. Franzkiewicz, of Withee.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)

 
Rose Pawlak, 77, passed away Wed. Nov. 4th at the Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Four members of the local Cub Scouts received their Webelos Awards at ceremonies Wed. night, Oct. 28th at the Thorp School gym and were accepted by Robert Grady, Scoutmaster, into Thorp’s Troop 27.  The boys included: Mike Zager, Mark LaGasse, Rick Lasiuk and Kit Graski.
 
David Kile, TA, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Kile, Thorp is serving aboard the USS Canopus, submarine tender, stationed at Holy Loch, Scotland.
 
On Oct. 3, 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wynimko escorted their daughter, Nancy M. to the altar of St. John’s Cathedral, Milwaukee, where she became the bride of Mr. Ronald G. Ehrlichman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ehrlichman, West Allis.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)

 
In finishing the season with a 7-10 record, the Thorp High School Girl’s Volleyball team had their best record since 1978.  Despite that success, the Cards did not quite live up to pre-season hopes.
 
Lawrence Weix, 80, Abbotsford, died Wed. Oct. 30, 1985 at the Continental Manor Nursing Home, Abbotsford.
 
Edward Galarowicz, 67, Lublin, died suddenly in the Village of Lublin, Tues. afternoon, Oct. 29, 1985.
 
The fiftieth golden anniversary was celebrated by Father Puerner of St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Church, Thorp, for John and Angeline Przybylski, Thorp on Oct. 10, 1985.
 
Janay Wittek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wittek, Thorp, was the winner in the junior division of the Clark County Conservation Speaking Contest.  Lane Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Olson, Thorp took first place in the elementary division of the county contest.
