100 Years Ago (1895)

Eidsvold – Barney Miske has purchased 160 acres of land west of the John Clark place and is now busy cutting logs on the same. – There was a dance at Otto Evenson’s Sat. evening, the Poquette Boys playing, and a good time was had by all present.
 
Dr. McCutcheon reports the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Borego on Sat. last; also a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Biddle.
 
A horse belonging to Chas. Ramberg who resides on the Geo. Banderob farm south of the village was accidentally shot by someone last week, the ball shattering one of its legs too badly that the animal had to be put to death.  The horse was valued at $200.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)

 
Worden – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Misfeldt Friday, December 17th.
 
Town Line – The recent marriage of Wm. Beachwood of the Town of Worden and Minnie Krogen of the Town of Edson is reported.
 
Neiman’s Corner – A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Klugiewicz Wednesday. – Walter Przybylski who was married to Miss Agnes Strand Dec. 15th, at Mitchell, S.D., came with his bride to spend Christmas with relatives here.
 
Gilman – Anson Heagle from Chippewa has accepted his old position as foreman, for the Gilman Mfg. Co. and it seems good to see him back to Gilman.
 
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bublitz, on Sat. Dec. 18th a son
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Rusch on Dec. 18th.  The little one has been named Ruth.
 
Wm. Beachwood, of the Town of Worden and Miss Minnie Krogan of the Town of Edson were united in marriage at Stanley on Saturday, Dec. 11th.
 
Aug. Kuehl, who is attending the Madison University, returned here for the holiday vacation, on Fri. last.
 
The index finger of L. Phillips’ right hand became infected in some manner several months ago and refused to respond to local treatment.  Last week Mr. Phillips went to a hospital at Eau Claire and had the finger amputated, returning home on Friday.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)

 
S/Sgt Leland Burss, son of Mrs. Louisa Burss, of Thorp, and Miss Juanita Lee Schmidt, of Grand Rapids, Mich., were married at Milwaukee on Wed. Dec. 12th.
 
Second Lieut. Everett P. Skroch returned to his home in Neillsville this week, following relief from active duty at the AAF Separation Center.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)
 
At 8:45 a.m. Wed, Dec. 10, 1970, nine CAMA direct distance dialing circuits were put into service in the Thorp Telephone Company Office.
 
Troy William Vetterkind, infant son, of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Vetterkind, was baptized Sun. at St. Hedwig’s Chapel.
 
Two persons were killed instantly about 2 p.m. Thurs. in a near head-on collision 3 ˝ miles north of Neillsville on a snow covered stretch of Hwy. 73.  The victims were Joe T. Pietrek, 35, of Neilslville, Clark County 4-H agent for the past 11 years, and Warren M. Bailer, 49, of Withee.
 
Walter Szczech, 63, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 15 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Katherine Bradle, 80, passed away Sat. evening, Dec. 12th at Victory Memorial Hospital.
 
Mrs. Antoinette Borkowski, 84, passed away at the Stanley Nursing Home, Dec. 9, 1970.
 
Earl E. Miller, 47, Route 1, Withee, died Thursday at the Colby Convalescent Home.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)

 
Steve Wolowik, 79, Greenwood, Town of Reseburg, died Tues. Dec. 10, 1985 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Shelly Slowiak, daughter of Paul and Barbara Slowiak of Thorp, has been selected as the local winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award.
 
Aloise Ustianowski, 68, Morgan Plaza, died Sat. Dec. 14, 1985.
 
Navy Seaman Recruit Jonathan J. Jarocki, son of Benedict and Lorraine Jarocki, Thorp, has competed recruit training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Ill.
