100 Years Ago (1896)

Dr. McKittrick reports a son born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Perry on Monday.
 
Mrs. Eva C. Fitzgerald, 40, who formerly resided here, died at her home at Dexterville on the 15th inst.
 
Wm. Reseburg and family started for the west on Monday and will remain for a time with relatives in Montana before settling permanently.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Connors rejoice over the birth of a son which event took place on Wed. of last week.
 
Married at the Methodist Parsonage, in this village by Rev. Bachman on Feb. 25, 1895 were Mr. Chas. W. Peterson and Miss Josie Ross, both of the Town of Thorp.
 
Thos. Steele Jr. and wife had a runaway while driving to the village on Fri. last, but luckily neither were injured.  The sleigh though, was fitted for kindling, in a moment’s time.
 
The local G.A.R. Post has received eight guns from Madison, for dress parade purposes.  What’s the matter with organizing a military company?  There are young men enough here to make an organization of this kind a success and much spare time would be put to good use.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)

 
Neiman’s Corner – Anton Papierniak met with a serious accident one day last week while hauling straw to the barn, he fell off the load and hurt himself very bad.  Dr. Jackey attended and now he is much better.
 
Horn’s Corner – A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Eppers on Feb. 17th.
 
Reseburg – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hedler Mon. Morning. – Paul, the 7 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Turenne died Sun. Feb 27th at noon.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jno. A. Papierniak on Sun. Feb 27th.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)

 
Severe abdominal injuries sustained in an accident while workin at a portable sawmill on the Emil Niemi property in the Town of Green Grove last week proved fatal to Matt Salo, 43.
 
Funeral rites were conducted Wed. afternoon at St. John’s Church at Withee for Mrs. Augusta Baehr, 83, who died in her sleep Sun. Feb. 17.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
 
Charles R. Mortensen, 75, pioneer resident of the Town of Worden, passed away at his home in Stanley, on Tues. Feb. 19th, after a long illness.
 
A very beautiful wedding took place Tues. Feb. 19, 1946, at two o’clock in the afternoon at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Reseburg, when Miss Helen Gorsegner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Gorsegner of this village became the bride of Thomas E. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Davis, of Hannibal.  Rev. F. H. Sprengler, Dorchester, performed the double ring ceremony.
 
Mrs. Anna Petruzatis, 92, passed away Feb. 21, 1946 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anton Pulokas, in the Town of Reseburg.
 
Taft – A son was born Feb. 13 to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Doud, of Duluth.  Mrs. Doud is Mildred, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Warner.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)

 
Dallas Dimmer, Postmaster at Stanley, was found dead in the basement of his home Friday afternoon.
 
G A F Corporation has announced the transfer and promotion of Arthur M. Balicki from District Manager of G A F’s Milwaukee Branch, Midwest Region, to District Manager of G A F’s Southeast Regional Office in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
Katarina Ann Briski, 76, of Greenwood, died Feb. 11 at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville.
 
Born to, Mr. and Mrs. Ceylon Schmidt, a baby daughter on Feb. 5, 1971.  The named her Harriet Victoria.
 
A 7 lb. 11 oz. son Michael John was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Maier at St. Vincent’s Hospital at Green Bay on Feb. 17th.
 
Ralph Koerski, 66, passed away Sat. Feb. 20th, at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Chris J. Price, 56, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Thorp, suffered a fatal heat (heart) attack while driving his car near Blooming Prairie, Minn.
 
Mr. Albert Wink, Sr. celebrated his 88th birthday on Thur. the 18th of Feb.
 
Gilman – Word has been received of the death of a former Gilman resident, Edward Demlanuk.  He passed away Sat. night at Los Angeles, CA.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
Joseph Tobola, 98, died Thurs. Feb. 20, 1986 at the Thorp Care Center.
 
Rose Pogodzinski, 88, of Thorp, died Sun. Feb. 23, 1986 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Diane Lyn Boie and Carl Frances Orth exchanged nuptial vows Sat. Oct 12, 1985 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley.
 
Carey L. Roytek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Roytek of Thorp, is a recent graduate of Southeastern Academy in Florida.  Carey received extensive traiing (training) in Travel Tourism.
