100 Years Ago (1896)

Claus Banderob is the first farmer in this vicinity to invest in a cream separator.
 
The Cirkel Mfg. Cos. Telephone line between Eidsvold and Boyd is being repaired and made ready for use again.
 
The heaviest rainfall experienced here this season occurred on Saturday night last.  The ground is becoming well soaked.
 
Miss Lillie Morris and Norman Craig were united in marriage at the residence of Chas. Chamberlain at Milladore on May 28th.  They will make their home in this village.
 
Wm. Walsdorf is building an addition 18 x 36 feet in size to the west end of his hall.  This extra space is to be used for a stage and two dressing rooms.
 
The commencement exercise of the village school will occur at Walsdorf’s Hall on Fri. evening, June 12th.  The graduating class this year numbers nine, as follows: Grace Arnold, Herbert Francis, Arthur Beilfuss, Nettie Bruno, Chas. Adams, Everard Sterling, Alfred Andrews, Anton Nelson and Oliver McKee.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)

 
Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rogus, a daughter. – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buss last week.
 
Jno Bauernfeind purchased the Wiley store property from the Bogumill Real Estate Agency last week.
 
The local ball team trimmed Amber at the baseball park here on Sunday last.  Zachow pitched a good game for Thorp and Osowski let no runner steal second. Amber was lucky enough to get five runs to Thorp’s thirty-three.
 
Miss Lucile L. Herman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Herman, and Mr. Frank J. Wilcenski were united in the holy bonds of matrimony at St. Hedwig’s Church on Tuesday morning, June 7th.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)
 
Frank M. Pomietlo of Thorp obtained a tavern and bowling alleys in Colby from Frank Obernberger and will take possession July 1st.
 
The Annunciation Church, Chicago, was the scene of a very pretty wedding ceremony on Sun. June 2, when Valeria Koperski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Koperski, of Withee, became the bride of Lester H. Koplitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Koplitz, also of Withee.
 
On Sat. June 1st at 10 o’clock in the morning a very pretty wedding took place at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, when Walter Koltis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Koltis, and Daisy Boardman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Boardman of Thorp, were united in holy bonds of matrimony by Rev. Father Rucki.
 
Harvey Gorsegner, 23, Port Angeles, Wash., passed away Fri. May 31, 1946, at his home from Hemorrhagic smallpox.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Deleske, Wed. June 5, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
 
On Tues. June 4th at ten o’clock in the morning at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, Miss Stella Twarowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Twarowski, of Thorp, became the bride of Mr. William Zukowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Zukowski, of Stanley.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)

 
The President of the United States of America has awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Russell B. Mead, city, for recognition of Fifteen Years of Service to the Nation as an uncompensated member of the Selective Service System.
 
Among the 719 persons receiving degrees at the May 29 Commencement of Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire are two who hold the distinction of being the first graduates in the Allie Health Program.  Receiving the Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Public Health are: Scott Jasperson, Osceola and Peter Anderson, Thorp.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Wincek are the parents of a girl, 8 pounds, 4 and three-fourths oz. May 24.
 
The baptism of Cynthia Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Mayenschein, was held.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
Ground breaking ceremonies for the new Thorp Pentecostal Tabernacle site on East Hill Street took place on Sun. May 25.
 
Darrell Decker, 72, died at his home in the City of Thorp on Thurs. June 5, 1986.
 
Louis St. Angelo, 94, of Frederic, died Tues. morning, June 3, 1986 at the Frederic Hospital.
 
Juriel “Jerri” Mattheisen, 71, Stanley, died suddenly at her home, Tues. June 3, 1986.
 
Lublin – We welcome Caroline Gwiazdon to our community.  She has moved into the Gerry Nowak house.
 
Miss Lana Olson, exchanged marriage vows with Charles Przybylski, both of Thorp, on Sat. May 31, 1986 at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp.
 
Heidi M. Hoffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hoffman of Thorp, recently graduated from Mankato State in Mankato, MN, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
