100 Years Ago (1896)

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter LaFlex on Sat. Nov. 21st.
 
District Attorney elect C. B. Culbertson, of Stanley, was a caller here on Mon.
 
John Kronberg went into camp last week and will put in logs as usual for Nye, Lusk & Hudson during the winter.
 
Sheriff C. H. Sheldon was a visitor here on Thurs. last.  Himself (He) and family will return here to reside immediately after Jan. 1st.
 
Dr. McKittrick was called to Boyd on Mon. evening and upon is return the next morning reported the birth of a bouncing boy to Mr. and Mrs. P. Hipke.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)
 
Butlerville – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wrye, on Nov. 18th a son.
 
Pleasant View – a severe snow storm prevailed in this vicinity on Sun. and Mon. last.  Snow fell to the depth of about 8 inches which is being made much use of this week.
 
Frank Plucinski left here on Fri. last for Chicago and will spend the winter in Florida.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hedrington at an Eau Claire Hospital on Tues. Nov. 8th.
 
The Bogumill Real Estate Agency sold the S. W. ¼ of the S. W. ¼ Sec. 6 Township 29 North, Range 3 West to Peter Kudingo of Thorp.
 
A variety of weather has been experienced during the past week.  Snow fell nearly every day and Sun. was very cold and blustery.  Fair sleighing is now being enjoyed but Fords are also still doing duty.
 
Dr. W. F. Nolechek attended a meeting of the Northwestern Wis. Veterinary Medical Assoc. at Chippewa Falls on Nov. 9th.  He was elected president of the Assoc.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)
 
Wilfred Hedler, son of Fred Hedler of Thorp, purchased the IGA Store in Colby from Mrs. Harriet Wonn and took possession last week.
 
Frank Porter, a resident of this community for many years, died at the Alvin Truckey home at Wittenberg on Sat. last.
 
A new plane, owned and piloted by Palmer Vinger, Greenwood, was badly damaged about 4 p.m. Sunday when the craft nosed in and tipped over during a landing at the Greenwood airport, 1 ½ miles south of Greenwood on Highway 73.
 
A lovely double ring ceremony was performed on Sat. Nov. 16th at the St. Hedwig’s Church when Miss Florence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Tomczak became the bride of Mr. Joseph Hanson of Stillwater, MN.
 
A son was born to Lieut. Commander and Mrs. E. J. Klink, of Milwaukee on Thurs. Nov. 21, weighing seven pounds, at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Mrs. Klink will be remembered here as Marjorie Neis.
 
White Birch – Mr. and Mrs. Al Potaszek are the proud parents of a bouncing baby girl that was born early Sat. morning, weighed five and one-half pounds.

Retired Do. Henry Wojdyla, 54, of the U. S. Air Force passed away Nov. 11th of a sudden heart attack.
 
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rycerz a baby girl on Nov. 6th.  They named her Melanie Kaye.
 
Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Andruszkiewicz of Lublin, a baby girl on Nov. 13th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
Paul Gajda, 67, Lublin, died in the emergency room at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley on Sat. Nov. 22, 1986.
 
Sophie Przesmicki, 88, Chicago, died on Thurs. Nov. 13, 1986 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
 
Alvina Gollhardt of Thorp and Willard Becherer of Granton, exchanged marriage vows on Sat. Nov. 1, 1986 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp.
 
Anne Marie Frank, daughter of Gordon and Rita Frank, Madison, and Mark Joseph Osowski, son of Thomas and Laurie Osowski, Thorp, exchanged marriage vows on Sat. Aug. 30, 1986 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Madison.
 
Butler – One of the big beautiful churches in Appleton was the setting for the wedding of Mr. Richard Mertens and Miss Tamie Nitzke.
