100 Years Ago (1896)

C. H. Christian went into camp Greenwood last week.
 
Farmer H. C. Leroy killed a young porker last week weighing 474 pounds dressed.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Peterson of Eidsvold, on Friday last.
 
A number of citizens went to Chippewa Falls on Thurs. and Sun. last to view the mountains of ice on exhibition there.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Alger on the 4th inst; also a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Bolin on the 7th inst.
 
Aug. Beckman is a newcomer from Iowa who has recently purchased a farm in the Town of Worden and is already occupying the same.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)
 
Worden – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Emil Henke, a son Dec. 1st.
 
Married on Dec. 3, 1921 at St. Paul; Miss Alice Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baker, and Will Ulery of Stanley.
 
Several inches of snow fell on Sun. last, improving sleighing greatly.
 
A son was born on to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baldeschwiler of Modesto, Calif. on Nov. 29th.
 
Anton Micke, of the Town of Worden recently finished a seven day test of three of his pure bred Holstein cows, which were tested by Anton Kelhofer, official tester.  Their average record was from 14 to 18 lbs. butter in 7 days.
 
The marriage of Miss Alice Gertrude Wiley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Wiley, of this village and Mr. Fred Wigglesworth, of Madison took place at Stanley on Sat. Dec. 3rd.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)
 
A fire which started in the east reception room of St. Hedwig’s parsonage located near the large church two miles east of Thorp, escaped entire destruction by the prompt action of the Thorp Fire Dept. about nine o’clock Wed. morning, Dec. 11 at the time of Church Service.
 
John Broda, 58, passed away at his farm home in the Town of Reseburg on Mon. Dec. 9, 1946.  He underwent an operation about two and one-half months ago.
 
Word was received her (here) by relatives that a seven pound boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harper at Milwaukee on Wed. Dec. 4th.  Mrs. Harper will be remembered here as Catherine Plecity.
 
Gilman – Fire destroyed the Polley Store and Tavern, Sun. evening, cause of the fire is unknown.  Mr. and Mrs. Florian Burzynski were in business there.
 
A very pretty wedding took place at Annunciation Catholic Church, Chicago on Nov. 30th, when Miss Dorothy Catherine Hanas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael M. Hanas, of Chicago, became the bride of Frank Stanley Gronek, son of Mr. and Mrs., Stanley S. Gronek, of Withee.
 
Miss Loretta Nowak, daughter of Mrs. S. Nowak, Chicago, became the bride of Frank Laszuk, son of Mrs. Chester Mikolajczyk, of Gilman, at St. John Bosco Church, Chicago, on Nov. 16th.
 
Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Marshall wish to announce the marriage of their daughter Marjorie to Kenneth Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson of Boyd.  The wedding took place Dec. 7th in Superior.
 
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Jacque a baby daughter on Fri. Dec. 5th.
 
Amos Sisco, a former resident of Thorp, passed away at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, on Sat. Morning, after several months’ illness.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)

 
Mrs. Richard Blazer, 51, died early Monday forenoon at her home in Owen.
 
City Councilman, Robert Smith, 41, died suddenly Mon. evening from an apparent heart attack at his home here.
 
Funeral services were held for Elsie Broeren, 78, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp, Sat. Nov. 27, 1971, who passed away Nov. 27, 1971 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
 
Mrs. Veronica Dulek, 68 years of age, died Wed. Nov. 24, 1971, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Edward A. Shortell, 66, died Thurs. evening at his home in Stanley.
 
Louis A. Jandrt, 71, Boyd, died of injuries received in a car-train accident, at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley, on Fri. Nov. 26.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
Maxine Polnasek, widow of the late George Polnasek, and daughter-in-law of Thomas Polnaszek, Thorp, died Mon. Dec. 8, 1986 of a lingering illness at Columbia Hospital, Milwaukee.
 
Leon DeLeske, 79, Marshfield, died Sun. Dec. 7, 1986 at Marshfield Living Care Center.
 
Donald Ramberg, 62, Withee, died Wed. Dec. 3, 1986 at his home.
 
Joan Lee, 52, Bloomer, died Thurs. Dec. 4, 1986 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire.
 
Candice Symbal and James Ciolkosz were united in marriage that took place at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Sat. Sept. 6, 1986.
 
Lublin – Mr. and Mrs. Leon Andruszkiewicz, Jr. of Lublin received word that they are grandparents, a daughter was born to their son Donald and his wife Dawn Andruszkiewicz of Florida.  She was named Crystal Dawn.
