100 Years Ago (1897)

Venison will be in the market next week.
 
The new Clark County jail is completed and was accepted by the building committee who met at Neillsville last week.  It is a fine building and complete in every way.
 
Last week depot agent H. A. Culler had his say in regard to the loafers hanging around the depot and this week he has the blues still worse owing to an order issued by the officials requiring agents to dress up in navy blue swallow tails with brass button attachments.  On Sat. a representative for a clothing firm called on and took his measurements.  If the new suits fit, all well and good, but if it don’t trouble will follow.
 
75 Years Ago (1922)
 
Eidsvold – news was received here of the arrival of a baby boy to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Warner of Hannibal, Tues. Oct. 17th. – The marriage of Edwin Warner, of Jump River and Miss Daisy Pake of Holcombe occurred Wed. at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Pake at Holcombe.
 
Geo. Plucinski and Stanley Glamkowski purchased a Globe radio receiving set of Art Rasmussen and have installed it in their bachelor apartments on Washington St.
 
A bouncing baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brunett of the Town of Worden on Wed. Oct. 18.
 
50 Years Ago (1947)
 
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Badzinski are the proud parents of a baby girl, born Oct. 25th, weighing eight pounds.  The little one’s name is Diane Louise.
 
At a nuptial high mass read by the Rev. Gregory Rueter before the altar of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, on Wed. Oct. 1, Miss Margaret Gengler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gengler, Medford, became the bride of George Thums, Jr. Westboro.
 
25 Years Ago (1972)
 
This year’s recipients of the Elks Youth Leadership awards at Thorp High School are Joan Morgan and James Sarafin. Jim and Joan will participate in the district contest.
 
A commemorative Mass was celebrated in honor of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Gulcynski, Thorp on Sun.
 
Mr. and Mrs. John Hickman celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary, on Sun. Sept. 10, 1972.
 
A young man from Thorp has re-enlisted in the United States Air Force, Paul J. Kowieski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Kowieski, Thorp.
 
Lublin – A new pastor has arrived at St. Mary’s P.N.C.C. at Lublin.  He is Rev. Thomas Salkowski, with his wife and two children.
 
Miss Barbara Jane Olejniczak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Olejniczak, Thorp, became the bride of William Bates, Superior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bates, Chetek, Sat. Oct. 14, 1972, at Christ the King Cathedral, Superior.
 
Miss Patricia Marie Romanowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Romanowski, Thorp, was united in marriage to DuWayne Leo Anderson, son of Mrs. LeMoine Anderson, Stanley, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley on Sat. Sept. 16th.

Jerry Kudingo, 46, Thorp, died at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire on Tues. Oct. 20, 1987 as the result of an automobile accident.
 
Blue Moon Cheese of Thorp received international attention this week, as a group of 17 visitors from the Denmark Cheese Association stopped by to observe processes from production to packaging.
 
John F. Zoromski, 87, Wittenberg, died Sat. Oct. 17, 1987 at his home.  He is the father of Longine and Rudolph Zoromski both of Thorp.
 
Former Lublin resident, Jean Sorenson, 79, died Sun. Oct. 18, 1987 at St. Anthony’s Health Center, Minneapolis.
 
Albert J. Chmelik, 67, Chippewa Falls, died Wed. Oct. 21, 1987 at home.
 
Gladys E. Ness, 86, Stanley, died Tues. Oct. 20, 1987 at Victory Memorial Hospital, in Stanley.
 
Alexander M. Baginski, loving husband of Marie (nee Nowobielski), died in Chicago.  Funeral services were held Oct. 7, 1987.
 
George and Gladys Burzynski, Thorp announce the marriage of the daughter, Germaine (Ginger) to Mr. David Lieser of Cottage Grove, Minn. Sat. Oct. 24, 1987.
