100 Years Ago (1898)
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Johnson on Mon.
The
Courier will have to be enlarged if Mr. E. L. Snyder is lucky in the
Copper River region.
Jas. Boylan arrived in town on Sat. last
after several weeks’ absence. Mr. Boylan has entered the employ of the
Plano Mfg Co. and is now engaged in selling farm machinery.
75 Years Ago (1923)
A ten pound son was born to Mr. and
Mrs. John Slota on Thurs. Feb. 1st.
A daughter was born to Mr.
and Mrs. Ernest Karlen of Boyceville, Sun. Jan. 21.
Thirty-two
degrees below zero was a record-breaker for the present winter, on Sat.
morning last.
A. G. Rasmussen resold his building adjoining the
Wolf Drug Store, to John Slota last week having purchased the same from
Mr. Slota in Oct. last.
Justice of the Peace L. J. Snyder
officiated at a wedding at his home on Sat. evening last when he united
in marriage Mr. Andrew Kubera and Miss Myrtle Swim, both of the village.
Thorp Volunteer Fire Co. elected new set of officers of the
organization, the result being as follows: Pres.-W. J. Frank,
Vice-Pres.-L. P. Walsford, Sec.-R. H. Tolford, Treas.-R. G. Lawrence,
Directors-C. W. Wolf, M. E. Lesniewski and Geo. Plucinski, Chief-C. E.
Burss, Assistant Chief-R. J. Brunner, Fire Marshals-R. J. Brunner, C. E.
Burss.
50 Years Ago (1948)
Mrs. Dorothy
Blenke, 21, who was shot Nov. 6th in a cottage at the Rock Dam Resort,
died Mon. in Cook County Hospital, Ill.
Two fires within a half
hour of each other Mon. afternoon destroyed two farm homes near
Greenwood, the first a large home of brick veneer occupied by the
Bernard Buss family and the second on the Barr Brothers farm occupied by
four hired hands.
Miss Betty Lenore Hilt, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. A.G. Hilt, of Galesville and Albert Morrison son of Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Morrison, of Thorp, were united in marriage at the parsonage in
Galesville, Jan. 31st, by Rev. Vevang.
Mrs. Grace Swim Lee
passed away in her sleep on Tues. morning, Feb. 3, 1948 at her home in
Westby, Wis. Rev. and Mrs. Lee moved from Thorp to Westby in Sept.
1947.

Marie Stewart, 56, died
suddenly, Mon. Feb. 5th while at work at Wausau.

Anderson, 74, Stanley, Died Fri. afternoon at his daughter’s home in
Jacksonville, Florida.
Benjamin J. Broeren, 83, of Bloomer,
passed away suddenly at his home Jan. 30.
Mrs. Daisy Mae Kane,
91, died Fri. at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley.
John
Wolf, formerly of Thorp passed away on Wed. in Chicago.
Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Kroll had their infant daughter christened on Sun. Feb. 4th.
She received the name of Katherine Michelle.
Reseburg – Born to
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grajkowski of Austin, Minn. a baby boy, Karl John,
on Jan. 19th. Grandparents are: Mr. and Mrs. Jack LaGasse and Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Grajkowski.
Dorothea Graham, 82, died Feb. 4, 1973
John Leszewski, Sr., 83, passed away Feb. 4, 1973.

Elmer Paul (Pete) Sachs, 82, died
Sun. Feb. 7, 1988 at the Stanley Nursing Home in Stanley.
Edwin
Wiederecht, 87, Thorp, died Mon. Feb. 8, 1988 at Victory Memorial
Hospital, Stanley emergency room.
Ole W. Johnson, 86, Stanley,
died Sun. Feb. 7, 1988 at Victory Memorial Hospital, in Stanley.
Maribeth and Mike Ciolkosz, children of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ciolkosz, have
been included in the 21st annual edition of Who’s Who among American
High School Students.
Donna Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Meyer, Thorp and Gary Nowobielski son of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Nowobielski,
have been named to the Dean’s List at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
for academic achievement.
