100 Years Ago (1898)

The Eg. Mead farm south of the village has been sold to Theo. Broeren, of Sheboygan, who arrived with his family and took possession of same last week.
 
Miss Mae Gorman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gorman of the Town of Worden, and Attorney John H. Haggerty, of Medford, were united in marriage by Rev. Korczyk, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in this village June 22nd.  They will reside in Medford.
 
Work on the brick store building being erected by Garrison Bros. is well under way, and the walls of the first story are going up this week.  F. H. Ward, of Marshfield has the contract for doing the brick work, and Samuel Snyder of Chippewa Falls, is superintending the work.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)

 
Wild Cherry – Baby girl twins were born to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Jaks on Tues. June 12th.
 
Edgar Andrews and wife left here on Tues. of last week for the west.
 
Miss Mazie Tolford, who finished her course at Milwaukee Normal School, returned home last week.
 
Miss Helen Kudingo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kudingo of the Town of Withee and Mr. Fred Leja, of the Town of Thorp were united in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Church on Mon. June 18th.
 
A card just received by The Courier announces the marriage of Mr. August Ernest Wendt, formerly of the Town of Reseburg, and Miss Anna Florence Hayes, of Kansas City, Kansas, where the wedding took place on Thurs. June 7th.
 
Dr. W. J. Frank and family left Thorp on Thurs. last for San Luis Obispo, Calif., where Dr. Frank will locate permanently.  The trip to the Pacific coast is being made overland in a Hudson car over the Lincoln Highway; a trailer fully equipped for sleeping accommodations is attached.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bogumill, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Bogumill and daughter, Pauline drove to Madison on Thurs. last to attend the graduation exercises of Thomas Bogumill who has completed a course in electrical engineering at the university.
 
Miss Susan Verkuilen who has just completed a course for teachers at the Outagamie County Training School at Kaukauna arrived home on Thurs. last.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)

 
Reburial graveside services will be held for Pvt. Walter R. Mattson at Fort Snelling on Sat. June 19.
 
A christening party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lukasiewicz for their infant daughter, Patricia Alice, Sun. June 13th.
 
Butler – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Morrison, a baby girl, Roxie Mae, at the Victory Hospital at Stanley the 8th of June.
 
Miss Helen Kvapil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kvapil, of Boyd, became the bride of John Klay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Klay, of Withee, Thurs. afternoon, June 3, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
 
At a nine o’clock Nuptial High Mass on Thurs. morning, June 10, at St. Joseph’s Church at Boyd, Miss Helen Dahlka of Boyd became the bride of Ronald Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moore, of Thorp.
 
Emil Karl Reineke, a resident of Butler community since 1920, was born April 27, 1877, at Reedsburg, Sauk County, and passed away on June 10, 1948 at the age of 71.
 
25 years Ago (1973)

 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mikolainis of Milwaukee. They named him Matthew.
 
Bobby Amundson, Thorp H. S. is among high school students from 44 schools and four states attending the Yearbook Photography Division of the Wisconsin Publications Workshop now underway on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
 
Miss Carol Ann Lobacz, West Allis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lobacz, Thorp, became the bride of Ronald Otto Frederickson, Greenfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fredrickson on Sat. June 23, at St. Hedwig’s Church.
 
Frances B. Foster, 88, died Mon. evening at Victory Memorial Hospital.
 
Happy Hollow – On Sat. a baby son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Stremikis.
 
Miss Irene Mary Gwiazda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gwiazda, exchanged wedding vows with Bernard E. Przybylski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. Przybylski, on June 9th at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Route 2 Thorp.
 
10 Years Ago (1988)

 
A special retirement service is being planned for Pastor Robert Olson of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp this Sun. June 19th.
 
Three men were killed instantly in a fiery collision of a motor home and a semi-truck, June 10, two miles east of Thorp on STH 29.  Thorp Fire Department and emergency personal responded to the scene.  Those killed were identified as Pat Rajski, 59, and David Konopacky, 57, both of Stevens Point and riding in the motor home; and Scott Stafford 28, Neenah, the semi-truck driver.
 
Richard Edmund, son of Lori and Randy Alger was born Sat. June 11, 1988.
 
Scott and Marilyn Koltis are proud to announce the birth of Sarah Marie, born Sat. June 11, 1988.
 
Genevieve Wry, 76, rural Gilman, died Mon. June 6, 1988 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Leo S. Burzynski, New London, 71, passed away Sun. June 5, 1988 at Manawa Community Nursing Center.
 
Henry Coates, 66, Eau Claire, died at Sacred Heart Hospital on June 10, 1988.
 
Clifford Langiewicz, 27, rural Stanley, died Sat. morning June 11, 1988 from injuries he received in a car accident that morning.
 
South Worden – Mr. and Mrs. George Paap received word of a new grandson, Scott Allan born June 9th to Rick and Diane Paap of Mosinee.
 
Michael J. Osowski, son of Tom and Laurie Osowski, was named to the Dean’s List of Top Scholars at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Education.
