Way Back When |

This week’s “Way Back When” features John Slupski (#33), playing halfback for the U. S. Air Force, which he joined in 1951, against UCALA at Edward AFB in California in 1953 during the Korean War. John was born and raised in Thorp and played football for the Thorp Cardinals from 1947-1949. He currently resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife, Paula. They return to Thorp every year to visit. Eileen Frenette called us with information in regards to the “Way Back When” photo that was featured in the August 8 issue of The Thorp Courier. The picture is of Eileen Bogumill Frenette (age17) on the left and Marge Bogumill Arsnault (age 16) on the right and was taken in the spring of 1937 at 205 N. Lincoln Street in Thorp. Eileen and Marge’s grandfathers were brothers. Eileen still lives in Thorp and Marge resides in Florida. |
