1949 Hunting Season: (L-R) Bill Vanderhyden, Art Jacque, Duce Telford, and Tom Polensek

This bear was shot near Big Chief Lodge north of Tony, WI.  Its mouth was full of porcupine quills.  It had torn open a cedar tree and gotten honey out of it from a big bee’s nest.

Previous Photos:

Eileen Frenette has identified the October 10 “Way Back When” photo as taken in the early 1900’s of a power plant in Thorp on S. Washington Street, which later housed a creamery, and a firehouse.  The Withee Bank now stands in its place.

Eileen also reports that the October 31 “Way Back When” photo was taken on September 25, 1915 in Thorp at St. Hedwig’s Polish Church.  The bride is Rose Anyzewski, who married Joseph Pawlak.  The attendant is Rose’s cousin, Helen Dekoskie from Kingston, N.Y.
