Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   January 7, 2009

This week, we have a photo of a couple in front of a new-looking house, complete with a small stained glass display in one window and a water pump outside. The photo was taken from the back of a postcard of Thorp places.  Do you know who the couple was, or where the building was located?  Do you know when the photo was taken?

Last week, we featured a photograph of a well-dressed lady.  Genevieve Pajak called in to let us know the lady was Mrs. Agnes Kapinski, her grandmother.  Mrs. Kapinski apparently lived first on a farm, and then later in the Town of Thorp.  Students often stayed at her house during the winter, since there were no buses to get kids to school.  She also owned a horse, which she used to visit her sons in the country.

In our December 24 issue, we featured a picture of a school class in front of an elephant.  Dean Micke called in to let us know that this was not a kindergarten class, but Mrs. Oberly’s first grade class from St. Bernard’s.  He estimated the picture was taken around 1966.  Dean, a member of this class, is third from the left.  Steve Jensen is second from the left, and Steven Haas is fifth from the left.  Thank you for the information
