Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --  March 4, 2009

This week, we have a group photo of some colorfully dressed men and women.  One man in the center even holds a concertina!  Do you know who these people are, and what special occasion they may be gathered for?  Do you know when and where this photo may have been taken?

In our February 25 issue, we showed a picture of a particular building in Lublin.  John Syryczuk called in to provide us with some information, along with the Thorp Historical Society.  The house waws built by A. J. Ogurek in the 192-0’s, possibly to house the many children from his marriage first to Katherine Jalowy and later Sophie Teclaw.  The building housed a hardware store, a dance hall, and building supply business as well until his death in 1937.  His children had moved away, so the house was torn down a few years later, but a new house was built inside the old house before the building ws demolished.  That newer building still stands in Lublin today.

For more information on this week's photo, check next week's column.
