Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   May 08, 2006

Here’s a wonderful old-time photograph brought in by one of our local residents. It appears a group of hard-toiling laborers have decided to sit a spell after hours on the job. What was the job, who are these hard-working gentlemen, and when and where was the photograph taken?

For more information on this week's photo, check next week's column.

Last Week's Photo

Dick Hughes has a sneaking suspicion that he now resides on the property pictured as the logging camp in last week’s Way Back When feature. The Hughes family resides in Sec. 26 of the Town of Taft, northwest of Thorp. Hughes has been told that such camps around Thorp were referred to as “Red Camps.” A former resident says that the buildings in the photograph were gone by 1915. Dick and we are requesting any other information about this interesting part of Thorp’s early history.
