Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   May 24, 2006

Remember that old television show, Petticoat Junction, where the credits opened with the picture of the young women bathing in the water tank at the train depot? Even our water tower from ‘way back when’ was a far cry from that, although we do hear stories now and then of young characters trying to climb the tower stairs to paint pictures.

It sounds like the Thorp water tower of today may receive a new paint job sometime soon, but we doubt if it will be from a brave group of city workers simply climbing up the deck with a paint brush. Today’s water tower paint jobs are a whole other ballgame—extremely dangerous and thus very costly.

Just who are these brave souls, and when was this photograph taken?
