Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   May 31, 2006

Ah, what a beauty.  The only information we have of this picture is that the young woman’s name is Helen Krugstin and the photo was taken in 1910

However, she is reminiscent of the classic Gibson Girl the ideal woman of the early 1900’s who was personified in the famous pen and ink drawings of Charles Gibson.  She represents the spirit of the early 20th century as she exudes an air of confidence with her perfectly coiffed hair piled atop her head, her crisp white blouse, and her elegant hat.  She some how managed to appear both aloof and accessible.

Who was Helen Krugstin and what is her story?

Recent Photo:

Alice (Giwojna) Strasser, now of Wausau, stopped in last week to tell us how surprised she was to see her first communion photograph in our March 29 issue.  Alice is pictured in the front left, she believes next to her cousin, Kitty Kenney.  Kitty’s sister, Patricia Kenney, is in the front row on the far right.  Alice believes the photograph was taken in approximately 1946.
