Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   October 18, 2006

Folks, we recently received a fat little envelope packed with old-time photographs of Thorp in its early days. Many of them are of local residences. This home is surely one of Thorp's firsts. Previously owned by Pete and An Van Calcar, it is now the home of our new city administrator and his family. It is located on North Lincoln Street, just south of the Moose Hall, or former public library, which clearly hadn't been constructed at the time this photo was taken. Just south of the Reeg home in this photo, we can see the first home of Arlen Jenness, which has since been replaced after a fire.

We're sure there's a lot of history in the Reeg house, but who can relate it? Who built this beautiful home and who has resided in it over the years? Tell us what you recall.

For more information on this photo, check next week's column.
