Williams, Myrtle (3 Jan 1873 - 2 Jan 1908)

Mrs. Myrtle Williams, wife of Henry E. Williams of Granton, Clark County, died at the hospital in Marshfield, Jan. 2, 1908, after undergoing operations for appendicitis. Mrs. Williams, whose maiden name was Myrtle Harriet Nelson, was born in the town of Grant, Jul 3, 1873, and was therefore 34 years, 5 months and 30 days old at the time of her death. Most of her life was spent in the town where she was born, though she lived for a time in Shortville, where her parents resided for several years. She was educated in the district school, in Neillsville High School, and later attended school in Des Moines, Iowa, becoming a very successful teacher.

She was married to H.E. Williams Jan. 14, 1894, who with their three children, George aged thirteen, Mabel aged nine, and Vance aged three, survive her. She leaves also to mourn her death, her father Hans Nelson of Greenwood, two brothers, Effner of Ladysmith and Herman of St. Paul, and a sister, Mrs. Eunice Schlinke of Hebron.

Mrs. Williams was a woman of rare intelligence, a kind neighbor and devoted wife and mother. She was an honored member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Neillsville, also of the circle at Granton. In the community and in her home her death has left a lonely place. No death in years has brought to the people of Granton and this entire community greater or more sincere sorrow than that of Mrs. Williams. The funeral was held Sunday in the M.W.A. hall at Granton under the direction of the O.E.S., Rev. A.R. Rice preaching the funeral sermon. Other relatives from away besides those mentioned who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. Chaffin of Ripon, Mrs. E. Sweet of Tomah, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Doughty and daughter of Grand Rapids.
