Deming, Augusta I. (1 Sep 1853 - 28 Apr 1908)

Mrs. Augusta I. Deming died at the hospital in Marshfield Tuesday morning, April 28, 1908. For several weeks she has been in poor health, and with the thought that a surgical operation might at any time be found necessary she was taken to the hospital last week Wednesday. An internal abscess which proved to be beyond reach of medical or surgical skill was the cause of her sickness. An operation performed the night before she died was unavailing. The remains were brought to Neillsville, Clark County, Tuesday evening and taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. George Lloyd, where the funeral will be held this (Thursday) afternoon.

Augusta Inez Marshall was born in Sheboygan Co., Wis., Sept. 1, 1853. When a young woman she came to Neillsville to teach in the city schools, where she met Henry W. Deming, principal of the high school, to whom she was married in 1880. Mr. Deming died in Nov. 1889, and the widow left to life’s battle alone has devoted the years since her husband’s death to the care of her daughter Helen, who is now the sole survivor of the family. Mrs. Deming was a woman of intelligence, education and refinement of character, a lady of high ideals, a wise, sensible and devoted mother. To her he can pay no higher tribute than this, for it embodies the highest type of womanhood. Her death comes as a shock to her friends and nieghbors, as reports of her condition appeared hopeful up to the day before her death. To her daughter, now a student in the Neillsville High School and to her sisters, Mrs. Geo. Lloyd of this city and Mrs. George Miller of Waupaca go out in full measure a community’s sympathy.
