McCoy, Clark S. (1 Jan 1871 - 21 Jan 1909)

Clark S. McCoy, who was editor of the (Clark County) Republican and Press during the summer of 1899, died in the hospital at La Crosse Jan. 21, 1909, aged 38 years and 20 days. "Biddy" McCoy, as he was familiarly known, had exceptional ability as a newspaper writer. He graduated from the Sparta High School, attended the State University for some time, was connected with the Sparta Democrat for several years as editor and lessee. He went through the Spanish American War as Quarter Master Sergeant, Co. L, Third Regt., Wis. Vol. In 1908 he went to Fort Worth, Texas, and became an editorial writer on the Fort Worth Record and later on the Telegram. His health failed in the fall of 1907, and he returned to Sparta, consumption having fixed itself upon his system. Mr. McCoy made friends wherever he went, and leaves many who will be sad to learn of his early death.
