Slocomb, Frederica (22 Apr 1865 - 5 Nov 1909)

One of the saddest death in recent years in this community was that of Mrs. Austin Slocomb, who died at her home in Loyal Clark County last Friday, Nov. 5, 1909, leaving a husband and a large family of motherless children, the youngest of which is only a few weeks old. Mrs. Slocomb, whose maiden name was Frederica Lichte, was born in Manitowoc Co., April 22, 1865, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lichte. They moved to the town of Grant, where she grew to womanhood, and was married to Austin Slocomb Jul 26, 1884. To them were born fourteen children, all of whom but one are living. Their names are Mrs. Geo. West, Asa, Charles, Lydia, Mattie, Ernest, Caroline, Elge, Austin, Georgie, Orlin, Herlin and Walter. She leaves also her father, one sister, Mrs. George Howard and two brothers, Fred and Adolph. She was a kind good woman, devoting her life to her family and household duties.

The funeral was held at Pleasant Ridge Church Sunday, Rev. Hendren of Greenwood and Rev. Burrows officiating, the large number in attendance showing how deep was the sympathy for the bereaved family and the friendship of the community for the deceased.
