West, Mary Jane (15 Dec 1856 - 3 Nov 1911)

Mrs. Wm. West, another of the old resident of the town of Grant, Clark County, passed away at the hospital in Eau Claire Friday, Nov. 3, 1911, heart disease and dropsy being the cause of her death.

Mary Jane Slocumb was born at Pewaukee, Wis. Dec. 15, 1856. She came with her parents to Clark County in 1864, the family settling in the town of Grant. She was married to Wm. West Jun 16, 1872. Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Richard Selves and Mrs. Albert Schultz and one son, William, also two brothers, Otis and Austin Slocumb, all residents of Grant. She was an intense sufferer for some time before his death. All that care and medical treatment could do for her by kind and thoughtful relatives and friends was done, and every effort made to alleviate her sufferings and prolong her life, but to no avail. The remains were brought back from eau Claire Saturday, and the funeral held at the home Tuesday.

Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Hendren of Greenwood, formerly pastor of the Presbyterian Church here for many years, preached the funeral sermon.
