HARDWARE STORE AND FEED WAREHOUSE

DESTROYED BY FIRE (Feb. 22, 1924)

Fighting a bad fire and conquering it only to have it break out again shortly after midnight was the luck of the Plainfield people when the Conover hardware store was discovered to be on fire about 4 p.m., having caught from the explosion of a blow torch. The building was one of the oldest in Plainfield, being of two stories and frame construction. The hardware store was first owned by Fred Rawson. (excerpts)
