Breed, John Frank (8 Oct. 1853- 12 Jan. 1922)

John Frank Breed a former well known Court street resident of this city died very suddenly of heart failure in his late home city of Blaine, Washington, on Thursday afternoon, January 12th, 1922.

Mr. Breed was born in South Haven, Mich., Oct. 8, 1853, and had seen 68 summers of life. He came here in 1872 and was married to Miss Hannah O’Brien on December 25th, in 1876. This city continued to be their home until after her death on March 31st, 1916. Mr. Breed suffered a sun stroke here the summer following Mrs. Breed’s death, and a year later, with his daughters Mary and Margaret he left for the Pacific coast where they hoped climatic conditions would restore his failing health.

Mr. Breed was known and well liked by most of this city’s population. He was an honored member of Odd Fellows lodge, the Camp, and the Rebeccas. He worked at the carpenters trade here and served the city for some time as engineer at the water works plant. His obliging manner wherever and however he was on duty, who him a place in the regard of the public whose heartfelt sympathy goes out to his surviving relatives who are his daughters, Miss Mary a teacher of seventh grade pupils and departmental worker in the public school, at Blaine, Wash., and Miss Margaret a rural school teacher at Eleva, Wis., and son Robert who is a railroad employee at Proctor, Minn., and one sister a Mrs. Orclay Tolford of Blaine, Wash.

Mr. Breed was a particularly helpful and appreciated neighbor here, and it was on one of his neighborhood errands that he met death. He had gone to offer aid at the home of his grand niece Mrs. Parks, who with her invalid husband was seeing their household goods packed in preparation for moving. He was suddenly stricken and within a few moments had quietly passed away. The body accompanied by Miss Mary his oldest daughter arrived here last week Wednesday morning and funeral services under I.O.O.F. auspices were had from the Congregational church that afternoon, Rev. Longenecker the pastor assisting in the services. Mrs. Powers sang several most appropriate solos and his fraternal brothers Wm. Free, Del Rodman, Dave Taylor, Geo. Trogner, Charles Brooks and Geo. Frantz acted as pall bearers. The I.O.O.F., the Camp and the Rebeccas attended in a body and the church was well filled with sorrowing friends. Interments was made in the family lot in the city cemetery beside the body of the beloved wife.
