Bequette, Matilda M. A. (18 Mar 1879 - 25 Dec 1921)

Matilda Maria Anna Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller, was born in the town of Cleveland, Jackson Co., Wis., on March 18, 1879, and died at her home on the same farm at 3:20 a.m., Dec. 25, 1921, aged 42 years, 9 months and 7 days.

She was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Henry Bequette of Cleveland, on Oct. 14, 1894, and during the twenty-seven years of wedlock she was a staunch and worthy companion. To this union were born two children, Mable, now Mrs. Vern Dohr of Marshfield; and Archie of Augusta.

Mrs. Bequette leaves to mourn her husband, two children, three grandchildren, five sisters: Mrs. Maggie Berry of Eau Claire, Mrs. Minnie Waterpuhl of Neillsville, Mrs. Louis Maves of Montana, Mrs. Delia Vander Poeig of West Salem, Mrs. Lizzie Schliter and Mrs. Ida Dupont of Fairchild; and six brothers, August and Christ Miller of Seattle, John and Fred Miller of Eau Claire, and John Driham of Fairchild, and also a large number of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Bequette was of a very ambitious and energetic disposition, very hospitable, and loved by those who knew her. She joined the Royal Neighbors, uniting with the Humbird camp, later transferring to Fairchild camp, and was a helpful and pleasant member for over fifteen years, in good standing at the time of her death. Her very brief illness, resulting in a cal to the Great Beyond, came as a sudden shock to all who knew her. The entire community offers sympathy to the sorrowing ones.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church at Fairchild on Wednesday afternoon, the Royal Neighbors forming an escort. Rev. A. J. Coram spoke comforting words of sympathy to a congregation that filled the church to overflowing. Interment was in the Cleveland Cemetery.
