Cotton, Julia (27 MAY 1845 - 13 Augl 1922)

Miss Julia Wells was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., on May 27, 1845. She was united in marriage in 1863 to John D. Buckley. To this union were born six children, one son and one daughter surviving. Her first husband died when their youngest child was two years of age, and two years later she was united in marriage to Wm. Cotton. To them were born three children all of whom survive. Her second husband died at Humbird, Clark County, Wis., in 1905, where they made their home for a number of years. In 1908, she came to Washington with her younger daughter, where she made her home until about two years ago, when she came to St. Helens, Ore. About a year ago she moved to Yankton, Ore., with her daughter, where she remained until Aug. 11th, when she was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital at Portland for treatment, where she passed away on Sunday evening, Aug. 13, 1922. Deceased was 77 years, 2 months and 16 days of age. She leaves to mourn her death three daughters and two sons, namely: Mrs. Chas. Galster of Black River Falls; Dennis Buckley, Lynden, Wash.; Mrs. Emery Tennant of Everson, Wash.; W. H. Cotton and Mrs. Ben Pierce of Yankton, Ore.

The funeral services were held at the church in Yankton, Rev. S. Darlow Johnson officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.

Some of the senior citizens from here and of the surrounding territory May be interested in this item: Michael Tower of 601 So. Ave. A., Port Ales, N. M., is much interested in tracing some of his relatives. Mrs. Sam Jones, deceased, whose maiden name was Cotton, is one of their aunts, once lived on the farm now occupied by the Martin family with the Cotton family. Edith Cotton married Ben Pierce and is now seriously ill in Washington State. Maybe someone would also remember the Cottons, who lived in the Cotton School District in the now northern portion of the Town of Mentor. Would be of interest to know if both Cotton families; were relatives.
