Mrs. Steve Smith

Mrs. Steve Smith (Stephen D. Smith, Sr.), died suddenly at her home on the farm in the town of Cleveland about 7:30 last Thursday evening. Although not in the best of health, it was not thought her condition was serious, and her death was a great shock to the family and friends.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon and were attended by many neighbors and friends. Burial was in the Mentor cemetery. Rev. F. C. Fahlgren officiated at the services.

Adeline E. Adams was born at Winnebago City, Minn., June 9, 1872. The family moved to this vicinity when she was a small child. She grew to young womanhood here, and on July 4, 1890, was united in marriage to Steve Smith. They settled first in Garden Valley, and then lived three years on a farm in Minnesota. Returning, they purchased the farm in the town of Cleveland, which has been their home, excepting two years when they operated the Commercial Hotel in this village. Mr. Smith died May 23, 1932. Four children preceded the mother in death: Raymond, Cora, Minnie, and an infant son. The surviving children are: Arthur, of River Falls; Mrs. Margaret Lubinski, Stephen D., and Guy, of this vicinity, and Meldrum J., of Ohio. There are eleven grandchildren who mourn her death. Mrs. Smith is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. George Chambers, of this village, Mrs. Charles Wesley, in Canada, and Mrs. Wm. Miller of Chippewa Falls, and a number of other relatives. She was 62 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
