Fowler, Dudley Orlie (27 JULY 1892 - 13 NOV 1934)

Dudley O. Fowler

A wave of sadness passed through our community on Wednesday of last week when word was received from Minneapolis, that Dudley O. Fowler, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Fowler, had passed away the evening before. He had been stricken with a heart ailment about ten days prior to his death, but hopes had been entertained for his recovery.

Dudley Fowler was born at Fairchild July 27, 1892. The family moved to Eleva in 1894 and came to Humbird in 1904. Dudley entered school here and was graduated from high school with the class of 1909. He taught school for a year, and then entered Lawrence College, graduating in 1914. Almost immediately he entered the employ of the F. W. Woolworth Co., where promotions came to him in rapid sequence; at the time of his death he was assistant manager for the company of the Minneapolis district.

He was married to Gladys Crump, of Lake Mills, July 7, 1915, and to them were born two daughters, Barbara and Winifred.

Mr. Fowler was a member of the Minneapolis Athletic club, the Minneapolis Gold club, the Rotary, and a member of the board of trustees of Lawrence college.

The funeral was conducted last Thursday afternoon from his late home, 4241 E. Lake Harriet Blvd., Minneapolis. Dr. Richard C. Raines, pastor of the Hennepin Avenue Methodist church, of which Mr. Fowler was a member, officiating. The body was laid to rest in Lakewood cemetery.

Dudley was a frequent visitor at the home of his parents in this village and had kept in contact with many friends here. He will be remembered for his kindness of heart, his great love for his family and parents, and a sincere willingness to be of service to others. It was these qualities that drew to him a host of close and steadfast friends among his business associates and acquaintances in that larger field where duty had called him.

To his family, his parents and brother and sister, Humbird people extend the kindest sympathies.
