Marth, Ernestine Henrietta (13 Nov. 1861 - 27 Aug. 1922)

Mrs. Frank C. Marth, one of the Neillsville’s early pioneers, passed away at her home in this city August 27 after an illness of seven months.

Ernestine Henrietta Ulrich was born in Germany Nov. 13, 1851. She came to the United States with her parents when three years of ago and with them settled in Sheboygan, Wis., where she grew to womanhood and lived until 1874, when she came to Neillsville. In 1875 she was united in marriage to Frank C. Marth. They lived on a farm in the town of Pine Valley until about 20 years ago when they built and moved to their present home in Neillsville.

Mrs. Marth endured all that hardships of early settlers. She was a woman possessed of high Christian ideals and sterling character, who never tired of helping others. She was a quiet, home loving disposition, devoted to her husband and children.

Mrs. Marth is survived by her husband and five children, Andrew W., of Passadena, California; Alfred W. of Kankakee, Ill., Mrs. Henry Heller of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ben Gazelka of Chisholm, Minn., and Alma Marth of this city. One son, Herman, died about 19 years ago. She leaves also 7 grandchildren and one brother, Herman Ulrich of Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services were held from the home and Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon, burial talking place in the Neillsville cemetery.
