Drier, Kenneth & Ruth (50th Wedding Anniversary 18 July 1983)

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Drier of Route 1, Colby, who were married July 18, 1933 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby, observed the golden anniversary of the marriage July 23. The Rev. H.J. Artman of Durand performed the 1933 ceremony.

The Very Rev. Raymond J. Pedretti was celebrant for the anniversary Mass in St. Mary's, with Mrs. Alois Gabriel, organist, followed by a dinner in the church hall. Grandchildren participated at the Mass.

An open house took place at the VFW Clubhouse Colby. The couple's children feted their parents at the anniversary party and dinner.

Drier, who was a school teacher and principal for 44 years at various places in Wisconsin, was born to Mr.and Mrs. August (Theresa) Drier May 15, 1908 in Arkansaw, Wisconsin. He graduated from Arkansaw High School, received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and his M.E. degree from the UW-Superior.

Before he was married he farmed and taught at Arkansaw.

His wife, the former Ruth Nussberge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew (Agnes) Nussberger, was born November 11, 1913 in Durand. She attended the Durand High School, the University of Wisconsin Extension of Taylor County, Medford, and the University of Wisconsin Center, Marshfield-Wood County.

She lived at Durand before her marriage. She and her husband had located at Meridean, Elmwood, Trempeauleau, Boyceville, Downing, Hixton, Eau Claire, Hannibal, Gilman, Phillips and Colby. He retired in 1973. His wife is a homemaker.

The Driers are members of St. Mary's Church and she is also affiliated with the Chrisrian Mothers Association. Their hobbie are fishing and gardening, with he adding hunting and she, reading.

Their children are Mrs. Joan DeMars, Eau Claire; Robert Drier, Jump River; Mrs. Virginia Templin, New Berlin; Mrs. Rose Mathy, Wind Lake; Donald Drier, Wausau; Miss Gloria Drier, Colby; and Mrs. Carol Pedersen, Hawley, Minnesota. There are 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Attendants at the 1933 wedding present for the golden wedding festivities were Mrs. Adeline Maguire, Durand, s sister of Mrs. Drier; Mrs. Mary Drier, Durand, sister-in-law of the couple; and Harry Nussbergers, Mrs. Drier's brother from Sheboygan.
