Eberhardt, Clara (25 July 1874 - 1 June 1923)

Mrs. H. H. Eberhardt passed away at her home in the city at 11 o’clock Friday forenoon, June 1, 1923. She was taken ill the Saturday evening previous with chills which later developed into pneumonia and which defied all medical treatment and careful nursing. Her death came as a sad shock to this community, so brief was her illness, that many of her friends had not even heard of it. Mrs. Eberhardt, whose maiden name was Clara Frick, was born in Sheboygan county July 25, 1874. She grew to womanhood there and on July 27, 1898, was married to Herman H. Eberhardt, at Plymouth, Wis. They went at once to Chicago, where they lived for about a year, moving from there to Hilbert, Wis. In 1902 they moved to Neillsville, buying Peter Johnson’s furniture and undertaking business. By industry and close application to their work this business grew continuously. Mrs. Eberhardt being a most faithful and competent assistant for her husband in every way. Several years ago they moved to their present location and a new building to take care of their growing business is well on in course of construction. Mrs. Eberhardt always took a great interest in all phases of their work. She was frank and outspoken in her manner, and yet had the full confidence of the public, for all who met her knew they could depend upon what she said as being her honest opinion. Her home life was beautiful in every way; she was a good wife and a devoted mother. She leaves to mourn her death her husband and one daughter, Florence, who will be eleven years of age in September. She leaves also her aged mother, Mrs. Susan Frick, who has recently been living in Milwaukee, but who has spent much of her time in recent years in Neillsville; two brothers, Dr. Louis Frick of Athens, Wis., and John Frick of Bessemer, Michigan; three sisters, Miss Louise Frick of Milwaukee, Mrs. D. F. Kaeser of New Holstein and Mrs. J. W. Paulson of Milwaukee, all of whom where here to attend the funeral.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran church, Rev. H. Brandt officiating. Members of the Eastern Star of which order deceased was a member, furnished music and brief ceremonies at the home and otherwise assisted in preparations for the burial. Mrs. Eberhardt was also a member of the Beavers and the Royal Neighbors. The pall bearers were R. A. Clemens, G. C. Youmans, Geo. Sontag, Adolph Unger, John Rude, Jr., O. W. Schoengarth.
