MRS. HANNAH HUGHES CELEBRATES 75TH BIRTHDAY

A letter from Union, Montana, gives the following account of the celebration of Mrs. Hughes’ birthday: "One of the most pleasant events of the season occurred May 27th when about seventy-five friends and neighbors gathered at the Hughes ranch in honor of Mrs. Hannah Hughes’ seventy-fifth birthday.

A bountiful birthday dinner was served at noon, there being several beautifully decorated birthday cakes which had been presented to Mrs. Hughes. After the refreshments a fine program was rendered in which both old and young took part. The gathering was doubly enjoyable owing to the fact that it was a complete surprise to Mrs. Hughes.

Grandma Hughes, as she is familiarly known, has been a resident of this locality since April, 1913, she having, proved up on a fine half section of land, where she now resides with her son, John. During her residence here she has gained a host of friends and is very highly respected by all.

The day closed with another surprise fro Mrs. Hughes, when her sons, James and Sam of Neillsville, Wis., arrived having autoed from Neillsville. Dan Hughes of Menomonie will arrive Tuesday. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Will Garfield and son, Louis, of Circle, Mont.,"
