Montgomery, Edwin (15 Mar 1854 - 18 OCT 1927)

Edwin Montgomery, who has been very ill for two weeks, passed away Tuesday morning at his home on Court St. (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), aged 73 years, 7 months and 13 days. About 5 years ago he had a stroke of paralysis and never fully recovered his strength; another stroke came upon him about two weeks ago, which confined him to his bed.

Edwin Montgomery was born at Farmington, Jefferson Co., Wis., March 15, 1854. He gew to manhood in Jefferson Co. and was there married to Miss Emma Reynolds May 25, 1873. They lived for some years there and came to Clark County about 40 years ago, living for a short time near Christie. They moved back to Jefferson Co., and then 28 years ago they moved back here permanently. About 12 years ago they sold their farm in Pine Valley and bought a home in the city, where they have since lived.

Mr. Montgomery was for many years an active farmer, engaging also in real estate business. He was an excellent farmer, industrious and honest in his dealings. He was a good neighbor, a kind husband and father. As a citizen he espoused those causes which he believed to be right and worked with vigor and enthusiasm for them.

He leaves his wife, two sons, Ralph of Neillsville and Paul of Milwaukee, and one daughter, Mrs. O. I. Hickcox of Hudson. One son, Leonard, and a daughter, Nettie, Mrs. Richard Dickinson, are deceased. He leaves also two brothers, B. T. Montgomery in Utah, and George Montgomery in Portland, Oregon; and two sisters, Mrs. N. E. Crandall, now in Ohio, and Mrs. C. Paynter of Madison; also 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Lowe's Funeral Home, Rev. S. G. Lambright officiating.
