Charles, William (1851? - 2 Augl 1928)

William Charles, for many years a resident of Clark County, Wis., died at Hackley Hospital, Muskegon, Mich., August 2, 1928, aged 77 years.

Mr. Charles was born at Mercer, Maine, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Charles Sr. He came west with his parents when a small boy and grew up on the home farm northeast of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. As a young man he worked in lumber camps on Black River, and when about 30 years of age he went to what is now South Dakota, driving two yoke of oxen on a big ox cart. He engaged in farming near Watertown, S.D. and was quite successful. About a year ago he came here to make his home for a time with his brother Sewell, who lives near Neillsville. His health becoming very poor, he was taken to the home of his brother John in the city, where he received care and medical attention, and five weeks before he died he went to Muskegon to stay with his children. He was there a short time when he grew worse and had to be taken to the hospital where he died.

The body was brought to Neillsville for burial, his son Will accompanying the remains, and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Lowe's Funeral Home, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

Deceased leaves three sons and two daughters, all of Muskegon, Mich. These are John, Will, Lyman, Miss Marjory Charles, and Genevieve, Mrs. Murphy. He leaves also six grandchildren, two children of his son John, one child of Lyman and three children of Mrs. Murphy. He leaves two brothers, John and Sewell of Neillsville, and one sister, Angeline, Mrs. Abe Lynch, also of Neillsville.
