Grace A. Abel, 95, Neillsville, formerly of Greenwood, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Memorial Medical center, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Grace A. Herr was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Alden, Ill., to Albert and Ellen (nee Bailey) Herr. She was raised and educated in Greenwood, where she attended school at St.Mary’s parochial school and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1927. She married Otto William Abel on Dec. 19, 1931, in Greenwood. They operated Otto’s parent’s farm for one year and then moved to a farm tow miles north of Greenwood. In 1940, they moved into Greenwood, where she was a homemaker. Her husband, Otto, died in 1971. She continued to live in Greenwood and worked for the Green Thumb program at the Greenwood Public Schools. She later moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where she lived for several years and then entered the Neillsville Memorial Home in February 2002. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and had many interests, including sewing, crocheting, and quilting, especially for her grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her five children, Harold "Bud" Abel, Marengo, Ill., Joan (Harry) Bujanowski, Wisconsin Rapids, Lloyd (Dawn) Abel, Brussels, Donna (Jerry) Peters, Rudolph, Rudolph, and Frank (Abigail) Abel, LaPuente, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolores Keantin, Muncie, Ind., and Loretta Herr, Greenwood.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Otto,; one son, Albert Abel; one daughter, Yvonne Rondorf; one grandson; two granddaughters; one sister, Lola Slavin; and two brothers, Joseph Herr and Francis Herr.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
