10 YEARS AGO June 11, 1992 Brad Gerrits placed fourth in the short put and Wendy Licht placed sixth in the 3,200 at the state track and field meet. Kelly Haas and Sasha Brenner earned ninth-place finishes in the shot put and high jump, respectively.

Carrie Minke and Kari Rowekamp were named to 1992 All-Conference Softball First Team. Bridget McCrackin was named as an honorable Mention.

Debbie Mitchell was crowned as the new Miss Boyd at last weekend's Ringelspiel Days festivities. Sue Werge" was the First Runner-up, Diane Licht was the Second Runner- up and Cindy Meyer was Third Runner-up.

A painting by Minnesota artist Frances Christian, three trees and a special book selection are all part of the Edwin Roe Memorial at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library. Roe was the library board president for many years.

Harold,Johnson was reappointed to a five-year term on the Housing Authority by the city council. 40 YEARS AGO June 14,1962 Father George P. Mathieu, pastor at St. Mary's Parish in Stanley, will celebrate his silver jubilee of his priestly ordination on June 17. Mathieu was ordained May 22,1937 in St. Joseph's Cathedral in LaCrosse.

John Ver Weyst officially took over the duties as the postmaster for Stanley. He replaces Arthur Gaffney. All remaining merchandise at the K&M Store will be auctioned off on June 15 and 16.

50 YEARS AGO June 13,1952 The Maves Memorial Pavilion will be ready for use this summer, if volunteer labor accomplishes as much as has been done this past week, according to members of the committee.

Stanley's Drum and Bugle Corps, 35 strong, added to the highlights of the Seventh District American Legion parade at Glidden. A naval research laboratory balloon was found on the E.W. Machler farm, 3 1/2 miles southwest of Stanley on June 11. 60 YEARS AGO June 12,1942 One of a series of four District Dairy Day observances to be held in Chippewa County since last November will be held at the George Weissenberg Farm in Worden on June 19.

A triumphant, staggering blow was given to Japanese sea power was announced by Admiral Nimitz in command of the U.S. Naval Forces in the Pacific last weekend. As a part of the battle raging off Midway Island, U.S. Naval Forces had sunk three aircraft carriers, three cruisers, and damaged three transports.

Some of the most intensive fighting of the war has prevailed for a month in Libya in an attempt by the Germans and French to take the North African province from the control of the British.

70 YEARS AGO June 10, 1932 Mayor George H. Hipke, Mrs. J.R. Amacker and W.H. Bridgman attended the Republican State Convention at Madison Tuesday and Wednesday as members of the Chippewa County delegation.

St. Anne's graduated 20 students on June 5.

A campaign against ice cream vendors is about to be launched by the State Department of Agriculture. Some vendors are actually selling frozen custard, which does not comply with Wisconsin law.

100 YEARS AGO June 14, 1902 The firm of Lien and Olson have dissolved partnership and the business will be continued by Mr. Lien. Prior to the dissolution a sale will take place to close out the surplus stock of this concern.

Notice is hereby given that license on dogs for the year 1902 is now past due and is payable to the city treasurer. On the 25th day of this month all delinquents will be turned over to the chief of police and dogs on which licenses have not been paid will be killed as the ordinance provides.
