Matonich, Catherine (7 JUN 1887 - 23 May 1940)

Granton, Clark County, Wis. - Mrs. Joseph Matonich, 52, route 3, Granton, died at 10:15 o'clock Thursday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been a patient since Monday. Death was caused by a complication of ailments following an eight weeks' illness.

A requiem high mass will be read Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Bakerville, with the Rev. Arthur J. Cramer officiating. Interment will be made in the parish cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, until Sunday, when it will be taken to the Matonich home. A general rosary service will be conducted there Sunday evening.

Mrs. Matonich, nee Catherine Paun, was born in Yugoslavia June 7, 1887, and was married there about 34 years ago. The Matoniches came to this country about 28 years ago, and settled near Virginia, Minn. Twenty years ago they came to this vicinity.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, Peter Matonich, South Chicago; Milan Matonich, Chicago; and John Matonich, at home; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Anna) Rollins, Spencer; Mrs. Charles (Rose) Speller, South Chicago; Mrs. Steve (Mary) Shimkus, Wis. Rapids; Mrs. John (Catherine) Enfield, Humbird; and Misses Helen and Louis Matonich, at home; and 13 grandchildren.

Two brothers, John and Tom Paun, both of Granton, and two brothers and one sister, who reside in Europe, also survive. Mrs. Matonich was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of Bakerville Church.
