Marlow, Gilbert Sr. (5 Sep 1848 - 22 Feb 1925)

Gilbert Marlow Sr. died at the home of his son Louis, owner of the Green Grove Cheese Factory west of Colby, on Sunday, Feb. 22nd, 1925 after a long illness of dropsy and leakage of the heart. The body was brought to Dorchester and the funeral conducted from the St. Louis Catholic Church Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Pitzenberger officiating. Albert Esser, Vincent Wuest, Richard Schreiber, Herman Kronschnabl, Mat Michels and John Schmitt acted as pallbearers.

Gilbert Marlow was born in Quebec, Sept. 5, 1848, and was 76 years, 5 months and 17 days old at time of death.

He was married to Miss Josephine LeClaire at Fond du Lac and ten children were born to them. Five, with their mother, preceded him in death.

The Marlows were among the early Dorchester, Clark County, Wis. settlers, so he was among the members who helped to make this country the beautiful, fruitful land it now is.

We all must admire those people who who were not frightened by the hardships that confronted them but went steadfastly on toward the goal they had set before them. May they live long in the hearts of fellowmen.

They lived on happily together in the farm home, just a little way north of the village, seeing their children growing up about them and going to homes of their own until 1915 when the wife and mother slipped out into the great beyond.

Louis then managed the home farm until he went into the cheese making business. But the father seemed most contented with him so he made his home with Louis and wife until death called him to join his best beloved.

Five children are left to mourn his loss, two sons, Gilbert of Fond du Lac and Louis, three daughters, Mrs. Maggie Premeau, Westboro, Mrs. Josephine McDonald, Cour de Lane, Idaho, and Miss Melvina Marlow, Spokane, Wash. and two brothers and two sisters in Canada.

Those from out of town present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. A. Premeau, Mrs. L. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. E. Veslie, Westboro; Gilbert Marlow, Fond du Lac; Mrs. George Tedder, Henry Malchow Sr., Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Premeau, Stetsonville; Walter Malchow, Stevens Point; Lelah LeClaire, Abbotsford and Mrs. Ollie Lord, Cornell.

The Clarion joins the many friends in offering sympathy and condolence to the bereaved ones.
