AUGUST KAUFMAN

August Kaufman, 98, Humbird passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls, where he had been a resident since Sept. 2, 2003.

August, son of Joseph and Mary (Bock) Kaufman, was born March 6, 1905, in Mentor Township, rural Humbird. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview, where he attended parochial school and where he married Josephine Bell, Oct. 27, 1936. The couple farmed all their married life, on the same farm in Mentor Township where he was raised. August was a founding member of the Fairchild Farmers Union Co-op and a member of the Milk Producer’s Co-op in Neillsville.

This was his favorite time of year as he enjoyed the World Series and the upcoming deer hunt. He also enjoyed building and repairing machinery.

August is survived by his son Thomas and Kathleen Kaufman, of Henderson, MN; 3 daughters, Evelyn Boos of Humbird, Elaine and Vincent DiNino of Leominster, MA; and Althea Halderman of Waterford; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine, Feb. 23, 1999; sons-in-law, Ron Halderman and Jerry Boos; and by several siblings.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, rural Fairchild, with Father David Ziegelmaier officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rosary services were held Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
